You will find info for this at www.welfare.ie under Exceptional Needs Payments. When you have documentation from the council showing that you have a house, you need to go to your local welfare officer and they will arrange a grant for you. A friend of mine moved into a council flat recently and the grant covered furniture, appliances etc. Good Luck:)

My SIL got around 3500 to furnish her council house. They gave her a list of what she should be paying for each item.

    HI OP

Just to confirm there are no benefits or entitlements for furnishing your council house. There is a payment called exceptional needs payment, which at the discretion of your welfare officer can be payed out if you claim exceptional need.

    here is the official explanation.

It's a grant it's not paid out as exceptional needs ,it's separate payment with different guidelines And it's only available to those who get social housing
