Extended Warranty Query

    Hi

    I've just bought a Sony Vaio from Harvey Norman. Got it for a good price and very happy. :)

    HN have offered an extended warranty (2 years) for E69. On questioning the sales assistant, he told me that HN will carry out any repairs required under the warranty and not Sony.

    I'm wondering if I should in fact take out the warranty offered by HN or try and see if I can get one from Sony direct.

    I guess the question is : Has anyone any experience of HN after-sales service? Should I get a warranty direct from Sony instead??

    Good, bad or indifferent, I would love to get some opinions...

    I haven't any experience of HN whoever they are but Sony aftersales isn't great. My daughter got her VAIO at Christmas last and the web cam has gone twice, that wouldn't be so bad but it has taken several months to get things fixed and back to her. So she has had a laptop for 8 months she could only use for 5. Not a good investment.

    covers defects and *possibly* normal wear and tear. It will not cover accidental damage which would be if anything, what you would want to go for.

    I may have misunderstood you but do manufacturers warranty's cover accidental damage, isn't that what insurance is for?

    You're confusing Insurance and Warranties. Accident Cover on laptops is somewhere on the order of 4-5 times more expensive up-front than an extended warranty. They kinda pay for themselves however, if and when you spill coffee on it, drop it off the couch, or smash the screen.

    How is that confusing insurance and warranties? Insurance is for accidents i.e. anything, warranty to cover defects I don't see how you could've thought I meant anything else from my previous post, please give me some of what you're having ;)

    This has gone a little off-topic now...

    I was asking whether HN warranties were any good or if I should get one from Sony direct.

    In fact, after checking Sony, I found their warranty can only be extended for a year, and costs E99. So I took out the HN one.
