12 year old out all night then popping home at midnight to say, 'just going out again'? WTF is that all about?

There's a thread on this in After Hours better suited to discussing the incident and arrests/charges etc.

Please keep this thread focused on the media coverage - assuming there is a discussion to be had on that front.

(A man has been charged over this now.)

Back on topic, I have to say the coverage by the Irish Daily Mail on this was disgusting. Continued today with another 'blame the parents' effort by Fiona Looney.

Michaela allegedly went back out after midnight and she was 12. BFD - so that's some kind of mitigating circumstance for being killed. Frankly, Looney has no idea what kind of parents Michaela's are and neither do we. There's a disgusting "nudge, nudge, odd-numbered postcode in Dublin, what do you expect?" whiff off the Mail's and other's coverage.

Why write a opinion piece around this kind of tittle tattle? Stick to the facts. Anyone remember Alaistair Campbell launching into the attack on the Daily Mail now being in Ireland? Couldn't agree more.

At least the Irish Times and others were more respectful. If the media want to judge families, then they can start by judging each other's.

Condolences and my sympathy are with Michaela's family and friends.
