THE country's most adventurous tabby cat has just been issued with her very own DART travel smartcard -- just in case she strays again.

Cat commuter Lilou, who caused a sensation after sneaking on board a DART train only to travel half way across the capital, has now been issued with her own official 'licence' to wander.

Last time, railway officials let her off with a warning over the unpaid fare, but next time they'll expect the six-month-old cat to be fully paid up on account of having her own smartcard depicting a slightly startled moggy.

    Adventurous

Word quickly spread on the internet that an adventurous cat had snuck on to the train in Malahide and was found in Pearse Station on Wednesday.

She was joyfully reunited with her owner -- Malahide-based restaurant manager Eric Bieci -- who revealed the young cat was now happily sleeping at home after her exhausting travels.

Irish Rail spokesman Barry Kenny revealed it was highly unusual to find a cat venturing on to the DART, but their canine compadres often proved far more adventurous.

"The odd time you might see a dog run on to the DART but it is just not a cat thing to do," he said. "The cat just sauntered on to the DART at Malahide and was sitting up on the seat.

"She seemed to befriend passengers on the journey and a woman handed her over to staff at Pearse Station."

I can almost hear the cogs working all over the country as people try to think of cat and Dart puns.

I found a young stray kitten on the Dart at Sutton 2 years ago. he was on the platform and as soon as the train pulled up he jumped on. I took him home and still have him as he was never claimed. He's still as bold as brass!

from the news tonight it seems they are too busy giving pussy-cats their own smart cards to worry about such things!

amazing how this useless company can give smartcards to cats and dogs off the street but cant be bothered to roll out integrated ticketing with its sister companies or a social welfare smartcard to cut down on fraud

Amazing how you can be told on a number of occasions that other government agencies (RPA and DSW) are responsible for both of those issues and still trot out the same anti-CIE bullsh1t.

You and a few others are incredibly tiresome and I can no longer be bothered even attempting to correct the crap you post as it is obvious you are not interested in learning anything.

CIE could integrate this smart system to comply with microchip implants that are normally injected into your family cat, no need for it to carry a card around its collar.

I'm just concerned that this will start a trend and we'll have pussies galore on the Dart.
