The best of ECW?

Anyone fans of the old original ECW here? Just wondering what the consesus on their best matches is. I'm wanting to sit down and watch a few so looking for ideas.

I know all about the Eddie/Benoit/Malenko/Rey matches and have a good few of theirs on their respective DVD sets. I've seen Heatwave 98 and Guilty as Charge 99 which I'd guess are probably two of ECW's best PPVs. Heatwave has a totally stacked card with the likes of Credible vs Lynn, Sabu/RVD vs Hayabusa/Hakushi and others. Guilty as Charged has a deadly ladder match, RVD vs Storm and a Tajiri vs Super Crazy that leaves their One Night Stand match to shame.

So any suggestions on others to look out for?

The RVD/Lynn series, the Masato Tanaka/Mike Awesome and Tajiri/Super Crazy series' of matches were great fun back in the day.

Mysterio/Psicosis had a lovely little series of matches..

Sabu/Sandman in the "Stairway to Hell" Ladder match is suprisingly good

Shane Douglas vs. Too Cold Scorpio vs. Pitbull 2 vs. Chris Jericho is absolutely incredible

    Taz/Sabu vs Benoit/Malenko is great

Also Catcus Jack vs Sabu from 1994 is awesome(fu*k you Jiz) too

Thanks for starting this thread Butch, I'm also interested in any recommended ECW PPV's. I believe there was only ever about 25, but I doubt I could find the time to ever watch all of them, let alone the difficulty in finding them.

I did recently acquire the aforementioned Heat Wave 1998, so looking forward to sitting down and watching that one.

Born to be wired,if only for the frankly insane barb wire match between Terry Funk and Sabu.

Lots of great ones already mentioned. For something a little different, I suggest EZ Money v Kid Kash for the amazing finishing sequence. One of my favourite ever finishes to a match.

Also check out this page which has links to videos of many of ECW's greatest matches

Yep, all fantastic. I'm wondering which matches besides these ones anyone liked or would recommend.

Oh yes this was great fun. Man Spike bumped his arse off! I thought the key to ECW was Heyman's booking. He spoke in an interview the other day about WWE not booking matches to seem like really big events perhaps like they used to. Even if it was only Buh Buh vs Taz you still got the feeling "oh wait, could he actually beat him?". His booking at times made you care even if on paper it looked rubbish.

I think this match is on one of the WWE ECW DVD compilations.

Delta Music UK released about 40 DVDs of ECW PPVs, supershows and compilation tapes. In the states RF video released quite a few more I think.

There could have been only 25 PPVs yeah. Maybe less...

That one is on the ECW comp as well I think. It's a bit of a crap match but seeing two guys get so entangled in barbed wire was indeed insane.

+1 They released nearly all of the major shows ECW had. They were my first introduction to ECW PPVs, had only watched the TV show on Bravo at that stage. Which reminds me to mention that The Eliminators/Dudley Boys/Pitbulls had some great tag team matches in ECW around 1996.

Check amazon in this link for lots of the DVDs. A few WWE ones are at the top but the delta ones are also there.
