    Hi guys/gals.

I'm planning on upgrading to the the 35 euro 12 month Smart Bill Plan with Meteor from PAYG. I was wondering if anyone knew how how much the HTC Desire and Legend would cost on this plan? Thanks.

    Hi Colham

That info should be somewhere on their site. Beware though - Meteor have well documented problems supporting Android phones on their network - I've had two, the HTC Hero and the LG Optimus, and both suffered from a problem where the phones would lose all signal and in order to restore it, the phone would need to be rebooted or switched into "airplane mode" and back out, requiring a re-entry of your PIN. I am on the Meteor Bill Pay Max plan with the Hero and have this problem all the time. Meteor don't seem to be in any rush to solve it.

The frequency and timing of occurrences of the problem varied, but on at least 30-40 occasions I was cut off mid-call, which is appalling given that for all the phone's bells and whistles, Meteor are having problems with the most fundamental functionality on the phone. The HTC Legend and Desire use a newer version of Android than the phones I mentioned, so it's possible the issue has been rectified. That said, this issue hasn't been reported on other Irish networks, and I checked the Android bug database and there wasn't a mention of this issue in particular, so I'm prone to thinking it's an issue with Meteor's infrastructure rather than with the phone.

In short, look around on Meteor's forums and on Boards to see if this issue has been reported for the phones you've mentioned. I'll be switching to O2 or Vodafone the minute my contract expires as I've had other issues, like them overcharging me by 60 on one bill for data, and it taking two months to be reimbursed.

    Story Colham,

I'm on that plan with meteor for the last 2months,i moved for meteor payg. I got the htc legend with 200mins 200texts 1GB allowance of data a month and free meteor calls and texts for 35e. The phone cost 50e and its pure class. the desire is the better phone of the two by a slight margin but costs considerably more.

As with network issues for 3g and the signalling dropping, I've encountered no problems with the legend on meteor.

The only thing is to make sure when u purchase the phone that u get free meteor calls & texts otherwise u will go thro the given limit very quick. I'm a heavy user with the internet but haven't got close to my allowance (I use 3g watchdog which is free in the android market).
    Hope that helps

Thanks, this is the exact plan I'm going for. I'm getting it in the carphone warehouse, that shouldn't make any difference should it?

You'll be lucky. My local CPW told me no where had the desire. Don't think they had the legend either..

I rang up and asked, all they had was one Legend, and they're holding it for me!

it shouldn't make any difference as cpw will be offering the same packages, only thing is tho, i had problems with the first month bill when i rang customer care (meteor said i didn't have free meteor calls & texts because i was an existing meteor customer & that the offer was only for new customers), I complained as i was told in the meteor store that i had that add on and so they had to update my account.

Just be sure when ye get the phone that u have that offer,

Lucky. Meteor aren't expecting Legends until October. Desires should start trickling in a bit more regularly in September, but not in massive quantities.

hmm? i though Legends were discontinued and operators were told to sell of remaining stock as it would be last

Is there problems with the Legend in relation to 3G coverage?

What Bill plan did you get it on? and when?

Just got told today that the Desire will not be back in stock till October on Meteor . bit ridiculous considering they said it'll be back in stock at the end of August and that the fact HTC use SLCD instead of the scarce AMOLED

It's not down to Meteor, it's all HTC. Meteor would have a lot of them if they could get them.

Same as you, €35pm and have it 2 months now I think. I got lucky and reserved one when I was in Liffey Valley, unbranded as well.

And have you had any problems coverage wise? or any other problems?

I didn't get it in the end because the guy at CPW refused to give me my free meteor to meteor calls and texts:mad:How come loyal meteor customers can't get this, but new customers do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

Existing Meteor customers do get it. Maybe CPW don't give it, but Meteor stores do. Offer is due to end today though.

Meteor must be expecting a shipment of Desires - they've just upped the online price from €29.99-€159.99 to €49.99-€179.99, strange move for something they don't have in stock...

Last week I went into one of the Meteor shops, I asked if they had the desire in stock and was told that they did (last friday), then I was asked if I was a new customer or upgrade, as soon as I mentioned I was an upgrade I was told that the last phone had just been sold.
Since then I have been ringing around a few different meteor shops and when I ask if they have got the desire back into stock the first thing they ask me is is it a new customer or upgrade, when I say upgrade im told there is none in.

I asked one of the meteor rep on the phone why this is, he said that some of the desires were only for new customers and some for upgrades. I said this to a guy in the CPW he said that they all get the same phone packages and they dont have a certain number of desires for new customers and upgrades.

In all honesty it sounds like they are keeping the desire for new customers only and to hell with there current customers.

Has anyone got a Desire on upgrade in the last few weeks?

Also sick and tired of the reps trying to convince me to buy a galaxy instead telling me that they are so much better than the desire (then in the end pulling there desire out of there pocket) and saying the desire might not be back into stock till after xmas (after a 2 managers in 2 other stores telling me that they should be back to full stock levels in the next 2 to 3 weeks).

To be honest, once you get the lag fix, I prefer the Galaxy over both the Legend and Desire. Much better screen and camera, in my opinion.

I totally agree i wanted a desire but after deciding to go with the galaxy im delighted with it

I've got a Legend and apart from the rubbish battery life you get with all smartphones think it is great for the money. I got it for €100 with a trade in and then pay €25 a month including 250MB internet access.

That said, if you don't want to root to have a usable device, Froyo is out this month, and going by the pre-releases, it makes it as fast as the current version with the lag fix.

Also, way more internal memory with the Galaxy. 1.2gb phone memory and 5.6 internal SD card with an SD slot also.

It says a lot when the majority of Meteor staff and some CPW staff have HTC Desires and Legends (those that dont have IPhones).

It makes it even funnier when the Meteor staff try to sell you the galaxy over the desire and when it is apparent your not interested pull out there HTC and agree with you in the end. (Obviously they are only doing what they are told to do by there bosses ie sell the galaxy).

If they are so much better why do so many of the staff have HTCs? I have yet to talk to any staff member either Meteor or CPW who have a Galaxy.

    I have a Galaxy. :)

Upgraded from the Legend and I prefer the Galaxy. Desires/Legends have been out for 6 to 9 months now. Galaxies only about a month hence why Meteor staff may not have them.

    Fair point.

But I was talking to 2 Meteor reps, 1 on the sales team and the other works in a meteor shop, who are waiting on the desire to come back into stock to purchase for themselves.

Did you buy it on prepay?

'Cause I'm not seeing any option to get the Legend on Bill Pay Connect.

i have one reserved for me tomorrow to pick up.. problem im having is that i dont know if im going to be in ireland for the full year..

180 euro on the 35 euro per month plan for 12 months.
figure it works out about the same as buying the phone contract free so im not too bothered still

I wish I had read this thread before I wnet over to Meteor. I have just changed to Meteor and I got the HTC Legend. The phone was great for a few days until I noticed that coverage would totally disappear for no apparent reason. I thought it was the handset but obviously by the comments above its the network. Similar to the post above, I have to switch it to airplane mode and back again before the problem fixes itself! I was going to take the phone back tomorrow but obviously i would be wasting my time? This problem has happened me about 5 times in the last 2 weeks since porting over.

    Kenyard,

180euro sounds overpriced to me. I paid €50 for a Legend on a €30 price plan (18 month contract)

its ridiculous alright, i had huge problems with them to get it on my account but it was worth it in the end.!

what you could do is switch over to o2 keeping ur number and then switch back to meteor to avail of the free calls and texts.
