Hi there, i'm looking for a cheap 8 channel adat with line inputs only.

    Does such a thing exist?

I do not need any mic pre's and also i'd rather have 1/4" line outputs,
than the XLR outputs on the Behringer ADA8000.

Is the ADA8000 the only cheap one on the market?

    Cheers.

Yes, it's the only cheap one currently in production. There was the SM Pro Audio AO8, it's discontinued. In reality the Behringer is 17 bit, not 24. Still great value though, mic pres, ins AND outs.

If you get the ADA8000, a Thomann XLR to jack cable is €4.77, would 8 of those do the job?

It is what I do and works a tread.

BTW, I dont know if its made obvious in the manual but due to the way its wired the outputs are only fed by the ADAT in.

Im almost 100% positive thats the case.

    Sound advice! ;)

Tbh, i'd rather buy 8 x 1/4" line sockets and solder & mount them myself,
but the cables would be easier.

My 6 analog ins on my E-mu are pretty much eaten up, so i was thinking of buying one of these for the time being.

I'm also toying with the idea of buying the older yamaha 01v as my first desk instead,
but the lack of inserts is putting me off slightly. An adat card can be bought for that mixer also, which would aid recording.

I really want a mixer with midi controllable EQ, and loadable "scenes", so i can trigger them via a control change placed at the start of each track on my sequencer to load up the eq settings for that track.
Automated eq, would save the need for a second man to work the desk live also.

I'm not sure if i could justify forking out for the 01v96, unless i knew i would get full use from it.

Well any of those Yamahas are very cool mixers to use, the pres on the 01v are not great but it's fine for line level stuff.

Cheers. I've always thought it would be great if there was a midi controllable mixer, but I never it knew it existed, let alone knew it existed over a decade ago!
