Display mirroring problem

I have a PB G4 that I occasionally connect to a TV without problems. Now whenever I turn on the PB or it wakes up from sleep it reverts to a smaller display as if it is mirroring. If I plug in the TV & select detect displays the PB returns to normal & I can unplug the TV. However when I turn the PB on again it reverts…

If I plug in the TV & select detect displays the PB returns to normal & I can unplug the TV. However when I turn the PB on again it reverts back. Clearly it thinks that the TV is connected when it isn't.

Any ideas as to how to reset it ?
