So I seem to have enough money to potentially fund a trip to a masseuse, my questions then are:

Living in the Celbridge area in Kildare can anyone recommend a decent masseuse?
Has anyone any input on the various merits or demerits of a massage as either a one off or as a continued part of training?

If you can afford it go once or twice a month for a while. Personally when I could I did and liked it. I always did it after a heavy weight lifting session when I knew I wasnt going to be training again for 3 days and got a deep tissue/vigorous/thai massage .

It was not always pleasant at the time but I always slept like a baby that night and always felt better the next day. My personal preference is a deep tissue ish massage nut your mileage may vary.

I also find sauna or hot bath helps me slleep as well

    Hi Shane,

Sports massage combines the use of Swedish massage with additional more intensive techniques, for the prevention and treatment of sports injuries.

    It can:
    1. help to improve the suppleness and flexibility of muscles and joints
2 speed up the healing of damaged or overworked muscles thus reducing recovery time, allowing you to regain your health and performance
    3. increase fitness capabilities and performance potential
    4. prevent future injuries by identifying and treating current muscle weaknesses, tiredness and problem areas (from my point of view this is one of very important merits of Sports massage:))
    5. break up adhesions that can develop between the fascia of the muscles, thus improving muscle suppleness and mobility

Sports massage after your workout session can help clear our waste and toxins, reduce stiffness and enable faster recovery.

Depending on the sport you do, you can have partial or full body massage. Partial is also used for treatment of injured parts, or as a part of warm up or cool down after competition.

Full body Sports massage should not be provided more often then once/week because of its great impact on your overall homeostasis (your body needs 24-72hrs to remove toxins that this kind of massage would move out of muscles to your blood and then to your digestive system). Partial - that depends, in case of injury every other day is quite often the rule of thumb.
I absolutely agree that it is nice and you sleep like a baby after the session :)

    Hope this helps :)
