Evening all. . .just want to ask. . . Is anyone familiar with this latest 'generous' gesture from the DES. . . .our school has had a good few retirements this year and the department has allowed us to fill two A Post positions. . These two posts will be filled by current B Post holders . .and get this- they're not allowing us to fill the vacated B Post slots. . . . . .madness or what?

Are they getting the A post allowance?? As far as I knew there was a moratorium on all PORs. And as far as I know unions have directed that members do not deviate from their written role duty or fill in for members with posts who have retired/are sick.

It was announced a few months ago that the moratorium would be somewhat lifted. Schools who were down a lot of posts could apply to the DEIS to get it lifted and make some appointments, in order to run them. I think we all knew that the moratorium would not be lifted completely. The Dept couldn't afford the bad PR and are just barely covering their asses. They want to see if we can manage without the B posts and get rid of them, as recommended in the McCarthy report.

As deemark says, there are circulars stating how many A posts a school can have in the minimum.
Hard to work without B posts IF they are being used properly. unfortunately some schools have B post holders doing nothing and others doing duties voluntarily

We don't have any post left in our school - we had one but the holder retired.
