I am just wondering about what way we should train. At the moment we do 10 400 with 100m recovery. We do them between 75 to 78 seconds well we try.Just thinking if we did them slower and did more 400 maybe 14 would this be better. thanks

Depends on what systems you want to stress. For a VO2MAX session you'd need more to get the full benefit. But for an Anerobic/speed session you may do less but faster with a longer recovery.

I read a few coaches and marathon runners dismiss 400's as preparation for a marathon. There is a session that widely used in which you run 800's at your target pace ie if you want the target a 3hr marathon you'd run you 8's in 3mins, a 3:30 marathon would be 3min 30 secs etc, seems to be very popular. If you want to do the 4's I'd say stick to slower but more.

Gerard I think those 800s (Yassos) aren't meant as marathon training. I believe they are just meant to be an indication of what time you can expect. In any case they don't work (not for me anyway.)
