    Hey,

    So this is my story,
My car was struck pretty badly recently whilst parked on the side of the road. It looks like it is going to be written off or at the very least a few thousand euro damages done to it. Similar cars to mine are valued at 12-13k on carzone.ie. The person who drove into me crashed down the road afterwards, wrecked their car and they fled the scene. their car is insured but now it might be reported as "stolen".

Has anyone had similar experiences? and if MIBI are my last resort, how little can i expect as compensation off them?

    Thanks,
    IrishO

If your car is a w/o you'll get a trade price. Prices on carzone are silly sometimes.

Your comp. cover (if you have it) will pay for your damage (if the are going to repair it) and recover it from MIBI. Include a figure in your claim for depreciation.

It takes time, and your NCB may be suspended at renewal.

yea its third party, forgot to put that important info in!! and my insurance company don't want anything to do with it. so MIBI is probably my only hope i presume? is it a poor form of compensation...like is it like more of a percentage of the cars value/ repair cost they will cover?

    Thanks

Was the driver of the other car arrested?

You will struggle to get depreciation on a car older than 2007.

Also I would go direct to the MIBI. You will need a Garda report, and IIRC if the car cannot be identified you can forget about recovering from the MIBI.

As a general rule I wouldn't recommend individuals claim from their comp insurance. It is easier in 99% of cases to go direct to the other insurer/MIBI (who appoint an insurance company to handle the claim anyway!). My experience anyway for what it is worth.

    thanks guys,

they didnt arrest him at all cos they fled the scene. and the driver says it was "stolen" . though in my own mind, and as far as i have heard in the situation, thats a bit of a fib on the drivers part. so his insurance is probably a no go. In your experience though, are the MIBI pay outs pretty poor? and take a long time?

    Thanks
