    Hey guys,

Dr. Kelly Starrett, or K*Star, has launched a daily mobility wod for those who want to maximise their training without spending an age stretching. The comedy in his videos alone are worth it.

    Check it out at mobilitywod.blogspot.com

    Thanks,
    Colm

Fantastic site! Cheers for that Colm - I'll try out a few of the exercises today.

Been following this myself. The ten minutes in the bottom of the squat was rough.

I saw this the other day and tried to ignore it, but since you're after posting it I suppose I'll play along.

FML wasn't it?? My tibialis anterior wasn't the same after it, nor were my VMO's or hips. Interestin thing is, I've been having a bit of knee pain on and off and I reckon my VMO's are the culprit, so it makes sense that they'd be especially tight.

Gonna do the hip and calf one later and try to catch up.

what's a good, more commonly available substitute for the lacrosse balls he says to get?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,158 ✭✭✭Chris89

Yeah. I've always thought my hamstrings have been holding me back but recently i have come to the conclusion that I am just bollixed in general!

Those wall stretches he did on day 2 I think, posting from my phone so I can't check, were absoloute hell on my quads. Had to scale to using a exercise ball thing to be able to stretch the hip.

Going to work hard at sticking to this though.

I was going to get hockey balls, where are you going to get the jump band thing?

Iron Woody for the bands, or Absolute Gold UK. I prefer the Iron Woody ones.

As for lacrosse balls, I can only find them stateside so far, tennis balls are a weaker substitute if you're stuck.

Pardon my ignorance but hat is the consistency of a lacrosse ball? Are they soft or hard or what? Would a hockey ball be too tough of a replacment??

cricket balls in tesco for a fiver or so.
    do the job.

totally brilliant resource - the smart people will do whats in there the silly people will piss and moan about their poor flexibility and mobility, do nothing and continue to get more or recurring injuries.

This is really good...I say that because people that train at Informed Performance will see it and be able to say 'I've been doing that for over a year'.

It also means people will have something else to do other than just copying or cherry picking exercises out of our monthly mobility and stability program :)

just did the 10 mins at the bottom of the squat while watching countdown.
i kept switching the weight from side to side like he said.
lasted the 10 minutes, just about.
standing up was so sore, hip flexors were on fire!

I've been following this I dont really want to follow it but it's a necessary evil. I've done and do a good chunk of what has come up so far but I never held them in position for that long. Big difference between 15 seconds and 2-4 minutes

Like most things...a few months ago I thought foam rolling was going to become a competitive event in some facilities such was the gusto whith which it was adopted....that's died down....mobility work is the new foam rolling....just try to play along for a while...give it a few months and everything will be back to normal and most people can get back to being the functional cripples that we've become accustomed to :)
