Long overdue but slightly suspicious to a see female pilot highlighted. Don't get me wrong I am a cheerleader for women pilots. But I do hate when the media, alway, always focus on the female pilots.

This comes from the time when a friend was selected for Coastguard flying, a young man. He did it the hard way. In the same group as him there was a woman. She was named 'woman of the year' as the 'only female rescue pilot' in Europe. It irritated me as the fact reflected that my friend really had did it the hard way. She on the other hand, had it handed to her. The media somehow believed she had the tougher assignment.

Like I said, in my experience, I have worked with superb women pilots. The best pilot I ever flew with was a woman. But no credit is given to young men by the media.

I am also interested in whether they acknowledge the number of Brits in the Coastguard. In my job British accents are the norm on Coastgard heli R/T/.

Indeed alot of the IRCG crew are ex RAF/RN and not to mention our own IAC fellas, good mix and a damn fine group of people.

As a matter of interest, is that the female pilot the one from Renmore Galway? I know a few years ago there was a big rescue off the west coast and it turned out that the pilot on that day was a girl from Renmore.

as for Dara being highlighted, well she's not only a pilot, but the chief pilot for the Waterford Base so it's completely appropriate for the show to focus on her
