Is there somewhere in legislation that says you can claim JSA while working part time under 20 hours a week?

Does this apply to paid or voluntary jobs?

If you are eligible for the Part Time Job Incentive Scheme, you can do paid work up to 24 hours max per week.

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Publications/SW69/Documents/sw69.pdf

Otherwise, normal JSA allows you paid work for 3 days max per week, Sundays not included, and sign for other days.

Info here about Voluntary Work while on JSA.

Ok im getting job seekers allowance at 196 a week.

    Firstly according to this '
    Part-time or casual work
If you get part-time or casual work (up to and including 3 days per week), you may still be paid a proportion of your Jobseeker's Allowance. However, you must show that you are trying to get full-time employment.' So if i get offered part time work for three days a week 9-5 i can still get payment for 2 days of the week-what does this work out to be?

Secondly for the voluntary work it says that 'How to Apply: The jobseeker or the voluntary organisation/group involved should request an application form VW 1 from their Local Social Welfare Office.' Let me get this straight-its up to the social welfare office if i can do the voluntary work or not? wont this red tape put off charities from using me-compared to someone who can volunteer off the bat?

JA is paid for 6 days per week. If you work for 3 days (not including Sunday), you will get JSA for 3 days and at €32.66 per day, that makes
€97.97 probably rounded up to €98.00.

Upfront charities will be entirely familiar with this process and will not be put off. AFAIK the SW extends the scope somewhat to allow work in charity shops such as Enable Ireland, Cancer Support, St V de P also. The clincher is that

The employment must be truly voluntary and the Deciding Officer must be satisfied that the unemployed person is not engaging in work that would normally warrant liability for the payment of PRSI.

Follow link in this document to the VW1 form http://www.volunteersouthdublin.ie/news/latest-news/246-volunteering-and-social-welfare-payments and you'll see that it's very straightforward.
