Tight calves numb feet

    Hi
    So some background first..
My season of rowing finished up mid july. For a week or so after that I went for an hour or so run every other day. Then I was away for two weeks and did absolutely nothing.
First day back running my calves were really tight, and then after they loosened out after about half an hour my feet went totally numb.

Now I imagine the reason for my calves being tight is because the muscles tightened up over the two weeks of inactivity and after a few weeks of exta stretching this should go.
My question is whether the numb feet are a result of the tight calves?
Have searched this and other forums for similar problems, people generally seem to say that shoes are the cause of it, however I ran in these shoes before with no problems.
It seems strange that its nearly exactly to the half hour that my feet go numb, and then no matter how many times I stop and stretch and take the shoes off the numbness comes back very soon.
The fact that the numbness goes when I take the shoes off would lead me to believe that these are the trouble, but then the fact that I get the numbness nearly as soon as the tightness in my calves seems like too much of a coincidence.

    Has anybody experienced similar problems?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
