Wow, Im surprised at first showing that Skybet has Messi 7-1 for top scorer in this seasons CL. He has been top-scorer the past 2 seasons and was second 3 years ago. With a Group containing Panathinaikos, Copenhagen and Rubin Kazan he should get a good few there plus Barca could very well go all the way. His nearest rival in the betting is David Villa who is 6-1 fav, then Ronaldo and Drogba. Messi will still take the penos and Messi is Messi. He is clearly the best player in the world and is getting better. 7-1 is a great price.

I'd probably still fancy Villa. The man just always scores. 7/1 is a nice price for Messi though.

I agree, I think David Villa will get top-goalscorer. He is a top-class striker, and he will score goals when given chances. I don't think Messi will score as much goals this season with David Villa getting his share of the goals.

Though you might aswell stick a tenner on the two of them.

Last season a lot of the goal scoring was left to Messi as IbraHAMovic was just grim for them from about October onwards. Season before that him Messi and Etoo had a ridiculous amount of goals between them. I agree about Villa, I think he's gonna slot into that team very nicely. Barca play with similar attacking style to Spanish national team(3 'forwards' who just run about all over the place) and he will not need time to settle into the Spanish league like foreigners would.

Tough one to call between the 2

great spot op, very god bet imo.
with ibrahimovic being born offside, forget aout him, my gut says messi, but considering his style of play, liking to shoot fom edge of box, i can see villa getting a lot of tap ins off rebounds playing alongside messi.

Villa is a massive danger alright but Messi is getting better. The 2 of them got a goal each last night and they look set to bang in a ridiculous amount of goals this season. Villa is 13-2 for top-scorer and backing the 2 of them isnt a bad idea for odds of around 3-1 though I think i'll just stick with Messi. I presume Messi will take the penos too which sways it in his favour. The thing about Messi is there will be a couple of games where he is just unplayable like the Arsenal game last year where he got 4 in one match.

Messi against Arsenal was the single best performance I have ever seen from a footballer in a match.

    Nice spot.

Very nice bet indeed. Definitely worth a flutter. As much as it sickens me to say this, Real would have to be considered for a decent run too with Mourinho in charge. Higuaín or Ronaldo could be worth a flutter. Ronaldo's at 8/1 and Higuaín's a tempting 14/1 shot. And then there's Milito at 16/1.

I'd still fancy Messi though, in spite of how Inter crowded him out last year. Defenses will hardly be able to cope with both him AND Villa.

Thinkin of 5 pts on Messi and 1 pt on Villa as cover. Villa could be anything at Barca.

    Not too bad then.

That is always the danger with top-scorer bets. If it is only 3 weeks, he misses only 1 CL match and that is miles away in Eastern Russia against Rubin so not bad at all. The way he was playing was unbelievable - he could have had 4 in the first game. Still fav for top-scorer, top price now only 3-1 so its nothing to get too concerned over. Once of course he comes back ok.

Lovely bet. I'd be very surprised if he didn't get it now.

Put 20 on him at 6/1 at start of season in pp,very generous indeed, had him last night anytime and barca win @8/11 and score 2 or more @5/2
    Long live Messi
