audi a3 ABS unit problems and comeback

    hi,

a friend of mine is having trouble with her audi a3 and needs a new ABS unit. it was a new car and her 2 year warranty expired about a year ago and its going to cost approx €1500 to fix. now even though her warranty is up surely that doesnt mean the car should start having these problems at only 3 years old. we've looked online and it seems this ABS issue is quite common and was a manufacturing fault. so, the garage where she bought it are saying audi ireland should cover the whole cost out of good will but they're only willing to cover about half the cost. we're wondering who the onus is on, her, the garage or audi ireland.

on a side note the girl in audi ireland is giving her no satisfaction and will not put her onto anyone else, not even her own superior(s) but i suppose her job is to protect audi irelands interests.

if anyone could help with this problem we'd really appreciate it,

    thanks

It is pretty standard for the manufacturer to cover half the cost if the car is in 3rd year of ownership and outside its warranty. Usually manufactuer will make a contribution (parts) and garage (labour). Your friend needs to see who is contributing what.

Regarding speaking to superiors, I am not surprised the girl wont transfer, as every customer who does not agree with the decision will want to speak to someone higher, etc. when the decision will be the same. What I would suggest is to write in to the Company Officially and the person will have to take it higher.

    Hope this helps.

I spoke to Audi warranty in Dublin about my A5. Very poor smart ass attitude from them. Its not the way to be treating customers.
Modern audi are crap and with this kind of customer service, they are losing repeat customers all over the place. One lost here for sure.
Just keep after them OP. IMO, it shouldnt be up to the customer to get onto Audi Ireland, the dealer should be fighting for you as they are the retailer and you bought from them.

My friend has a 2007 A3 and the same thing happened - ABS unit had to be replaced at a cost of ~€1200. It was just over 1 yr. out of warrantee. There is such a thing as an Audi "good will policy" whereby the main dealer can 'apply' for parts cover, on behalf of the owner, on the audi website. Nothing came out of this and she had to cough up the complete cost. The break-down assistance mechanic said he came across this problem 3 times before on passats - probably the same manufacturer/part. So thats 5 occurances that i know of - wonder how many more have occured?

Those abs units can be repaired for about €750.

The Dealer can apply for goodwill from Audi.
If she gets something, maybe 50% materials then shes doing well!

Cant understand people who get a warranty on a car, the warranty expires, and they still expect the manufacturer to cover repair costs!

Do people do the same with household applicances, computers etc etc?
No! I know a car is a lot more expensive but the principal is the same.

A manufacturer's or retailer's warranty is in addition to a consumer's rights under existing Irish / EU consumer legislation. These consumer rights are not necessarily limited to time-scales specified in a warranty and a consumer may still choose to test the enforcement of these rights in court.

Yes, but does it only seem to happen with the motor industry?!
