I wold appreciate your patience - I have read a lot of the threads but its actually confusing me

I have a Iphone 3gs which has a broken screen
Work has offered me one of there 02 upgrades so i could buy a new phone including iphone4

    My questions are

Can this be jailbroken/unlocked - easily . I thought it could but the most recent thread here seems to say no

Do meteor do a microsim ?

I am on a meteor contract but it ended months ago so can switch - which provider would be best value for data coverage etc

I really appreciate the help - thing is I could keep reading but need to decide before purhcase officer goes on Hols tomorrow !!

    Meteor will supply a microSIM.

If it's on v4.02 then it cannot be jailbroken easily.

Depending on firmware, yes. Jailbreakme.com no longer works on latest firmware, but redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 still works.

You won't be able to use your O2 iPhone 4 on Meteor until the jailbreak comes out for 4.0.2 - even then if the jailbreak goes messy you could have to answer to your expenses department about why you bricked their iPhone 4.

    I believe you mean unlock.
Jailbreak is for allowing non apple apps on the phone.
Unlocking is to allow it to use other/any carriers.

Your company may be able to get the phone unlocked straight away. Mine is already unlocked from o2 as I am on billpay and requested it. Cant hurt asking!

Actually I meant Jailbreak, because I only learnt in the last 10mins that O2 were unlocking iPhone4's. Depending on what kinda company you work for, they might not authorise unlocks because you should technically only be using the company sim in the company phone.

And how would jailbreak stop you using meteor or not then? You can be unlocked without being jailbroken.

Like I said, I learnt mid-thread that O2 were unlocking. If you didn't know they were unlocking via iTunes, jailbreaking would be the only way to unlock, no?

    Ah ok, fair enough so.
I think other networks are unlocking too actually, depending on spend and whether prepay or billpay.

You were both being helpful so lets not get too hung on things

I asks the powers that be and I understand o2 will unlock for me - so that was a great bit of news -i never realised

And as for making it a brick and been in trouble - I am buying it out of own money - just using a free upgrade

    Many thanks folk

Hopefully can jailbreak later as they dude beside me has nice apps i don't

    appreciated

Indeed, as long as you're a bill-pay customer O2 will unlock it for you. Obviously you still have to honor your contract.

No need to jailbreak it or anything. I suppose people will find a hard way when there's a simple one...
