Anyone else open this thread and expect to be made to feel really jealous that WhipIt was off playing somewhere good, while we were having a dual staring contest with the clock on the wall and our computer?

It could be worse, you could be playing Howth. :pac::pac:

Yeah, given the option that by Howth he could actually mean Howth Golf Club or Deer Park, sitting here in the office seems like heaven to me!

Grrrrr very jealous, Got to play it both the killeen course and mahonys point on monday and would love to be back down there again. First few holes around the lake are stunning and real risk reward short par 4 and the par 3 3rd. Enjoy!!

No one likes Howth GC but me by the looks of it. :)
Can't deny the great views at least lads.

Can never seem to get to grips with the 18th though. Easy enough drive but out of the 4 or 5 times ive played it ive never been able to hold the green with the approach. Never seem to be at the right angle coming in at it either though.

You can add me to the list, TC - was my first time played it and I enjoyed it. I can completely understand anyone not liking the place at all, however! Neither me or my pal had ever played it and we both usually carry our bags - but we had a sneaky suspicion a cart was the way to go and we were right!

The course is quite bizarre, I must say. I'd hate to be out there on a busy day - you'd be in danger with so many greens that cross the driving area of other holes. Never seen a course like it really!

But it was in good nick today, the weather was fantastic and the views are something else.

Took the money too, so can't complain ;)

PS - yeah, the 18th is a sneaky divil of a hole! My partner and I were both long and right with our approaches (pin front left) and we both putted off the green with our third shots!

Oh, also, one last thing to add to the bizarreness of the place - they don't play the holes in the right order for some reason?? You play 1-thru-6, then 16-18, then 10-15, then 7, 8 & finish on 9!! Don't ask me...

After reading that post I’m actually jealous. Forget about Howth, those three courses your playing have to be in the top 10 Irish parklands (well I know Druids Glen is), if not the list is rubbish.

Tell us what you think of Lough Erne, can only imagine how nice it is on a lovely day. Hope you get the weather.

    Lucky git!!!

Dun loaghaire is a great course which will only get better as it matures. Its one of my favourites to be honest and I love the idea of 3 seperate 9 hole courses which can be mix matched as needed, For anyone who hasnt played it its a must do and you will not be dissapointed, lovely water feature holes, long and very very good greens. As for the facilitys they aint uo to much but acceptable ha ha:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thats a four hour drive between those two courses, you must have been wrecked after your round in Cork than the next day to be playing in Monaghan.

Nice course. The run of 13th, 14th and 15th is class. It's par 4, 5 and 3 with the 13th being the pick of the bunch in my opinion. Great day for it too. Enjoy.

I wasn't doing the driving back (to Dublin) on saturday evening so wasn't feeling too tired. Only an hour and a half fom my place up to Concra on the Sunday.

HOWEVER, my scoring on sunday at Concra would suggest I had just jogged the whole way up from Fota! :o

What a bunch of braggers we have...

I played a bit of Golf Putt lite on the iPhone this morning, played 9 holes on WGT at lunch and if i'm lucky i'll have a few putts on the hall carpet later on tonight. If i'm feeling energetic i might even give the clubs a clean.

Now, who's got room in their pipe for that? Livin' the golfing dream.

I have to agree with Buachaill to a certain extent..... The Clubhouse and facilities... WOW! I hope the members realise how lucky they are!!!

We played the Lower 9 first, then the Middle 9.
Good variety of holes and no two the same. One of the few courses I have played where on a lot of the par 4's you would be much better not using the driver and going for position with a mid/long iron.
I had heard from "they" (as in "they say") that the course was very long but even as a 19 Hcp I didn't find it so, apart from a couple of par 4's that I didn't get my drive away well.
The views are fantastic, especially on a day like today. We were having lunch in the clubhouse after and we both remarked about how lucky we were living in the area.(Both local)
Found the greens quite fast and hard to read but I am sure the members would be able to handle them with experience. Saying that I had only 1, 3 putt and that was from the back of one of the many huge greens!
A very pleasant way to spend a sunny friday morning :D:D:D

p.s. we got it for €50 on the early bird rate!!

EDIT: The Pro mentioned they will be pole forking and sanding the greens in the next week or so! Be warned!!!

To be fair I think you got the best amd worst of the course, middle being the better and lower being the poorer !! The upper is far better than the lower to be fair. The teeth in this course is played on a windy day on upper and middle and having thought about it today I can only describe this place as the closest you will get to a links course played on parkland. Greens are very tricky and its a shot makers dream. Unless you have control of your ball and can zip them in and stop them you have to play the bump and run, very unusual for a parkland course. Oh what a track.

Round one over folks Arklow was played today, great day for it and shot a 75, roll on Druids tomorrow, weather to be great, gotta love that s.hit !!:P:P
