UPC features lack imagination

I think one of the main problems with UPC is their lack of imagination.

It seems they are playing catch-up to sky on a network that has the potential to well outstrip any satellite provider!

On cable in the states you can tune to any channel press the blue button and the program currently playing will go to the start of the program. (something satellite providers could never do)

UPC should be teaming up with xtra-vision and offering a box office / video rental type service.

Most new houses in cabled areas are kitted with multiple tv points which can easily support multiple boxes a major advantage, unlike satellite where multi-lnbs have to be fitted and individual leads run all around the house along with accompanying telephone wire to ensure boxes are not split up.

The PVR device should be tiny, fitted with a nice 2.5 inch laptop hard disk rather than a clunky desktop hard disk, easily fitted and hidden behind nice flat panel tv's with seemless integration.

Or even better, offering tv's with integrated with digital cable tuners to ease the technically challanged into the digital age.

Although the service is coming out of its troubled days it is missing key opportunities that could well surpass its rivals

I agree. However UPC struggle to get the basics of TV right, so Id sooner see them concentrate on that first and work on getting us a better selection of HD channels before they start trying something new like VOD.

Many new TVs do have DVB-C (digital cable) tuners. But UPC don't allow you to use them.

I was told here on boards that such cable tuners didn't exist, imagine my surprise when I saw a DVB-C tuner in Currys.

Is UPC providing this in any other country?
