A question regarding oil topups

    Hey all

So I changed my oil all by myself. Very proud haha

    Anyway, to keep it short.

    Mobil 1 0w40 went in
    Some left over (500ml)
I needed the Mobil 1 container for the old oil.
I poured excess new oil into a 1 litre Total Quartz 9000 5w40 topup bottle that had about half of the Total stuff in it.

My question is, since both oils are fully synth and both meet VW 505.00 can I use the Total Quartz as a topup until the next change?

My uneducated mind says if I used a new bottle of 1 litre Total 5w40 all that is happening is turning the 0w40 oil into .25w40 if you get me.

I know its not always advised to mix fully synth and semi or mineral in an engine that needs fully synth. Just curious about the above in case I was in a jam.

I would use my half and half mixture first, again an uneducated guess, if I needed to top up in an emergency.

    Thanks.

Absolutely no problem, imo, as they both meet the VW spec. Your .25W confused me at first! :D
