    Hi everyone,

I'm going traveling in Venezuela in October this year. I'm visiting a friend of mine who i worked with here in Ireland, who's from Venezuela and who lives there currently. I'm just looking for some advice.. what about exchanging money, my friend says ill change money in Venezuela at the 'black market', just wondering if anyone has an experience with that.. i'm sure she knows what to do because she lives there, but i want to know as much as i can before i go and to be prepared.. i'll be grateful for any comments and advices! thanks

yes, your friend is right. You should bring dollars cash (euro can be changed too but dollar will get a better rate). I'm not sure what it is like now, but when I was there last year at the start of our trip (in January) you got about twice as much money for changing dollars as you would with the official rate (like if you were using atms). When we were back in May you could get 2.5 times as much. It's crazy! But don't worry about it being the 'black' market. It's not like you're swapping money with some guy on the street. Most businesses will change money for you, or you can offer to pay in dollars and you will get the better rate.

thanks, very helpful! other thing im thinking about is how much money to bring, i'm worried to carry too much cash but don't want to use my bank card either.. i'm planning to take about 2000 EUR for two weeks, is Venezuela very cheap , like most websites say or has it changed recently? what about safety, any warnings or tips??
