    Welcome aboard.

We should meet as soon as possible.

I'd say best time to do it would be the first few days back. Thats the most likely time for more students to be in, with the newfound commitment to going to college after being scared by the exams

That's true I'm looking forward to the exam results myself, but I've got something else to excited about.

I see no reason why we can't.

But the knowledge gained is something I can't put a value on.

Cool. Me and one of my other mates were thinking of setting one up. How do we go on about doing this.

If you guys get going count me in!

    As stated before emailing The Societies Officer (societies@nuimsu.com) is the first step. She'll find out some basic facts from you and send you a PDF on how to set up a Club or Society. Basically what you need to do is;

    1. Generate an Idea and see if there is any interest.
    2. Write up a constution.
    3. Elect a committee.
    4. Get members (you need at least 30 **NOTE YOU MAY NOT CHARGE FOR MEMBERSHIP).
    5. Apply to the Capitation Committee for Recognition.

Sinead will be on hand every step of the way to help and advise you.

Id have to agree with this - also bear in mind that Clubs and Socs Day 2 (formerly Fairs Day) is on Wednesday 2nd of Feburary, so people will be in a join a club kinda mood!

Anyone here play with the rugby club? Thinking about joining, but I've barely played it competively at all. Also, the website looks a little out of date, any contact info. would be lovely.

rugby@nuimsu.com is their email address. I should have the contact persons name, but I left that particular sheet on my desk in Maynooth (I think its Grace, could be wrong tho...).

Pretty much the exact same! Its a scaled down version, many Clubs and Socs will be there - but not all of them. Its also on in the arts block instead of the SU and its only on for 3 hours from 11 - 2.

I was just wondering does anybody know what the story is with the Golf Society/Club on campus is?
It's just I joined it at the start of last semester and I was told there would be maybe an outing or 2, and possible driving range trips or something like that and I was all up for it.. only I've heard nothing back from them.. at all since I signed up on the first fairs day? :(

It's not the €2, it's just I was kinda looking forward to it? :D

Id imagine that your email may be wrong on their list. Email them golf[@]nuimsu.com and find out what the story is.

Right well we have Clubs and Socs Council tonight - all Clubs must send a representitive so there should be someone there.

Ill ask them what the story is and get back to you!

Unless things have changed a lot since last year (I was on a soc committee back then), I'd say there's an extremely high chance that there'll be no rep from at least a third of the clubs and socs on campus at C&S Council. And a third is being optimistic.

This is gonna sound bad coming from the first year rep, but has anyone heard anything from the Airsoft club? I sent them an email a while back, and heard nothing back from them.

Also, is there somewhere that I could get the timetable for the clubs and socs? Specifically the NUIM self defence club. Unfortunately I sick last week on the day of the fair thing :/

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,810 ✭✭✭Seren_

Here's the timetable for Self Defence - they run a few different types of classes during the week.

Much appreciated :) I was part of it last semester, and just wondered if the timetable had changed.

    Thanks very much,

Things have changed a lot since last year...Ive been at every C&S Council for the last 4 years. This year we've had attendance that is exponentialy higher than in previous.years. I dont have the exact numbers in front of me right now - so i cant quote figures, however we had roughly 100 people there tonight.

Unfortunately as it applies to this issue I dont think Golf were tgere. I will get in contact with them and see what the story is...

Here lads, is there a yoga society or something along those lines?

Still looking to make some real friends in my first year, and I figured a yoga society would be a good idea. Lots of laid back, down to earth kinda folk? :P

Edit: nevermind, found the email address.
