A strange question I know but mate of mine has been out of work for a while, been claiming jobseekers but also getting some part time work doing marketing cash in hand as some have to do nowadays.
However the other night he was showing me his cv, asking for pointers on improving it etc, doesnt he only have this marketing job down on his cv as most recent employment. I was just want to make sure Im right on this and what I said to him was he cant have it down as surely if he gets a full time job he will need to produce a most recent p45 to get put on payroll etc. I am right on this yeah?

I'm not 100% on this. For my current job, one of my previous jobs before it was a cash in hand job. It was great for the experience on my CV and nothing was mentioned about it?

Generally, he should include it on his cv. It depends on his line of work.

The danger is his employer may think it's a phantom job and he's trying to pull a fast one.

Some companies may refuse to employ him due to his dishonesty (welfare fraud & tax evasion)

Will he be able to get a reference from this marketing job? And not just the mobile number of some bloke on the street, but an office line they can ring?

Your friend doesn't have to worry about producing a P45 for their next employer, as there is no requirement to do this. When you start a new job, you are taxed at the standard rate for four weeks (a grace period) to give you or your employer a chance to sort out your tax.

Regardless of whether or not I have a P45, I deal directly with the tax office (revenue.ie) and ring them as soon as I start a new job. All you need is to ask for the Employers Number from your company, which is the equivalent of the employers PPS No. and then ring the LoCall number on Revenue's website and it is done immediately.

Thanks for all the replies everyone especially Lilmsss. looks like I stand corrected:D In fairness Im glad he can do this as it will look good on his cv and having all your work experience and skills on it will help. Im not sure about the reference eoin but I think it is reputable enough.
