An Post will not be posting Upc or 02 Bills from now one.

Basically they do not want too pay An Post too post there letters.

As these Company's would rather e billing and have us do there job for them.

Expect More Company's too Follow as they won't be the last company too do this.

How far will this all go and will the Irish people stand up and fight this...... ?

    Your thoughts and words....

I have been a customer of O2 and UPC for years and have opted for non-paper billing ages ago.

    I much prefer it.

    A few of my reasons:
Reduces paper coming into my home and reduces the amount I print on to keep on file
Makes it easy to view my current bill (in the case of O2 I can see the charges up to the end of the previous working day so can adjust my usage accordingly if I feel it's going a bit high)
I get a text two weeks before the bill is due notifying me of the amount so I'm not out of the loop at all
It's so handy when I need a utility bill for proof of address just to nip online and print off an O2 or UPC bill

    It's win/win.

I think the fact that O2 and UPC provide modern, technological products negates the "not everyone has e-mail" argument, to be honest.

Plus, you don't need regular access to e-mail to get either of these companies to do online billing; just a log-on that you can use to access their sites from anywhere.

My Question is where does it leave us not everyone has a email address or the time too check bills online.

If you have time to post on boards, you'll certainly have the couple of seconds it takes to download a bill..

I went for e-billing myself. So much handier and quicker to get your bills. Everything will end up going electronic anyway. I am all for it :) saves printing costs, saves paper and good for the environment :)

Surely if you joined boards, you already have an email address  I know that O2 and UPC can also send you a text when your bill is available so not having email, does not matter.

Im pretty sure you can still get a paper bill if you want, but they might now charge you a small fee for it.

Im all for e-billing tbh. The last while Ive been getting a 10-15 page bill from Meteor. Literally the only thing I care about it how much its going to cost me; I never look at the rest of it. Complete waste of paper and their time and effort sending it out to me.

I am in favour of e-billing, but if O2 stop buying stamps then the customer should get something extra rather than O2 pocketing the cost of sending the bill.

If you dont want it u can ring or email to opt out of e billing and there is no charge!

Ehhh probably not it's hardly a revolutionary issue now is it.

A friend of the family told me he works for an post.

Its not an posts fault they just don't want too pay them.

Noones blaming An Post. I think it makes perfect sense tbh. Imagine how much money is wasted each month on paper and postage sending out bills that a lot of people probably dont even look at. Now they have a solution that costs them nothing, doesnt waste our time with massive paper bills that we either have to store or dispose of, and is generally speaking easier all round for all concerned.

If people dont like it they still have the option to have paper bills posted out.

This makes no sense and there must be more to the story. O2/UPC are not suddenly going to stop paying for their postal service!

Maybe An Post offered discounts to volume customers in the past but are under pressure to increase margins? Either way, we can't speculate until there is official news of a dispute between the organisations.

You are the first person that makes perfect sense don't send my bills out and waste paper.

But if I do wish too have them posted out too me when I call there customer care they will be posted out too me.

All people want is the option too have bills posted too them not being forced into it.

If this is ACTUALLY the kind of thing An Post gets up to, then I'm glad they lost the contracts.

Let me be clear: if this actually happened, it has absolutely nothing to do with consumer interest, and is about nothing more than the money An Post will lose. If it actually happened as you say it did

I'm wondering how UPC will deal with customers - like my parents who don't have internet facilities and have no intention of getting them.

Not to mention the use of 'their' and 'there', 'companies' and 'company's' etc.

You can still ask for them to be sent out by post.

Why would they discriminate against the disabled or the elderly...?

You've just entered the land of complete farce - I won't even ask for a source because there isn't one other than a source where you make everything up.

and of course were it true that would be

'it was announced to all An Post staff to tell their family about it' :)

They do not direct debit them that is true look it up. why would I lie and post lies that doesn't make sense.

    Just spreading the word.

Thats hilaroius!! An Post HAVE to send out post they receive, its part of their licence with ComReg.... I received the insert from O2 and I totally disagree with the way they have gone about this...... I should have been asked to Opt in to on-line billing, not just told I am on on-line billing.....

Meanwhile sky customers get the sky magazine posted through their mailboxes.

Now thats a waste of paper:)

the regualtor has told 02 that they have too customers a choice so 02 will be sending out letters too all 02 customers give them that choice.

No word on upc but I;d say the regulator will speak with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,924 ✭✭✭✭BuffyBot

UPC already have. Certainly I remember a letter/bill insert a few weeks ago advising no more print bills unless specifically requested.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 natterjack

Thats good news. You know if it had gone on it would have ended up in four gold mines. We have contracts with 02 and I don't think they should be able to unilaterally break them.

    Well done to ComReg

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 176 ✭✭ChuckNorrisgod

I never got a letter at all.

Don't think it was com reg that sorted the problem it was the regulator this is what com reg had too say.

You can request from UPC that a paper bill is sent. There will be a charge for this. Other payment options are listed on the customer charter here: http://www.upc.ie/pdf/Customer%20Charter.pdf.
ComReg are not in a position to overrule an operators terms and conditions, as the contract is legally binding.

I am sorry that I cannot offer you further assistance with this matter.

I presume the financial regulator that is sorting out the issue.

If all bills end up being e-bills then how do you apply for things like a loan, H.P etc as they always ask for an up to date bill and it cannot be an e-bill as they are not excepted ?

Print off a copy of the e-bill. Would that not work?

Only originals usually excepted as e-bills can be doctored.

Real bill prints can be requested from customer care teams in this scenario but you will pay for the privilige
