Doesn't make sense (re: JSB payments with family)

Just wondering if you guys could help me out with something.
Was let go last November from work and have been claiming JSB since.

My wife is also out of work and I have a 3 year old daughter.

We get 355 a week.
Not sure of exact breakdown but its roughly 200 for me (JSB) + 110 for my wife and 45 for my daughter.

Now my wifes JSB ran out about a year and a half ago and she has not been getting anything since.

Is she not entitled to JSA ? She was thinking of doing a FAS course. Would this allow her to claim JSA ?

No you are collecting a qualified adult payment for her. In addition if you are renting, you will be entitled to recieve a family rate rent allowance. The amount would be decided by your community welfare officer as each case is unique with different factors to take into account .

If she recieves the BTEA you will lose the qualified payment you recieve for her and will instead recieve a single rate payment. She will get a single rate payment for the duration of her course. If you are recieving rent allowance, in this case it would be a lower amount than a family rate as the two payments will come into account. If you are not recieving a rent supplement, then you will be better off each week by about 30 euro whilst she is on BTEA. Unless the only allow you to to recieve a qualified rate and she gets the full rate.

Best bet is to ask the local office.

Your wife is entitled to make her own claim for JSA which will be means tested.

If you get Rent Supplement, you can check here how much of a decrease is likely if both of you are on 196.00 plus payment for your child.
