Unable to send message after multiple attempts

Does anyone else have this problem? I get it quite a lot of the times when I try to send a text message that's in any way long (say 2/3 or more messages long). It happens pretty much immediately after pressing send and even if I press to view report, it says received, but then I can also press retry sending and then it might send properly and will give me another received report, sometimes the people don't receive the texts if it says received, sometimes they get a few texts from me because I've tried a few times to resend it and it's delivered each time?

Pretty annoying

I'm with Vodafone using rooted Desire (think it still happened before rooting) and using the included text app.

Any feedback appreciated

Exact same thing happened to me earlier today. I received a 'transient error' or something along those lines when seeking an email address (they may have been trying to send me a vcard or something that might have caused the first error) from a vodafone user to my branded (2.1) O2 desire and when I replied later with just the word 'done' so a very short message it instantly alerted me with 'unable to send after multiple attempts' I just sent the same massage from the desktop cabbage client and got a reply shortly afterwards so do not know if the failed message made it or not. I'll keep an eye on it in case it happens again??

I did a restart of the handset afterwards just to be on the safe side.

do you have decent coverage?

did you ring vodafone customer care for troubleshooting trying to fix the problem?

cant say exactly since never experienced it on normal occasions...it only happens to me if im in a poor coverage area

coverage never seems to be a problem when it happens, but I can keep an eye on it anyway. I'm also signed up to Vodafones missed call notify service and sometimes I get notifications when my phone has been on, but never rang. This is pretty bad if I'm missing calls. I wonder is it the desire itself, the network, the sim card or my location? My old phone with o2 never really had any problems at all.

Its the networks, happens to me as well no matter what device I'm using (non Android included)

i get it a bit on my desire with vodafone. no real pattern to it. i just hit "retry sending all" and it generally sends.

sad to report that even after an update to froyo, update to radio etc that this is still a problem

It seems to only happen on large texts (texts maybe 4 or more messages long).

Also, very strange:
My niece was messing about on my phone yesterday and I sent what she was tapping into it to someone, I don't know what she pressed but it was like a degree symbol but I realised that this little symbol, which only appeared to be one character (one press of delete got rid of it!) made that particular text message 9 messages long :eek: when I deleted that one character, it went back to 4 messages, so this one character added 5 messages to that text????

I don't yet know how vodafone saw this, if they charged as 4 or 9?

Also, because it was 9 messages, it kept failing to send, I retried a few times and when I deleted that one character, it sent ok??

Then of course I find out that the recipient received an 9 message text, about 8 times, so it did actually send even though it was reported as failing :mad:

so that's 72 texts! bollix!
