How long ago did you have the bearings replaced in your old gearbox? I'm no mechanic, but i'd be asking questions if i'd spent €700 on work on a gearbox that failed shortly thereafter.

Traynors up North would be your best bet.

    Hi Anan,

700 was the original quote to get bearings done, etc...turns out the gearbox is in sh;t. Last owner did a poor patch up job and now the whole thing needs to be replaced. A new one costs about 1,000 minimum plus labour costs so I am only going to fix if I can get a secondhand one

Wonder if that is the same box that keeps going in the Trafic and Vivaro vans? If it is, might make searching a little easier.

I think that the gearbox in those was a fairly common fault. I don't think it was down to a poor patch job. You are going to have a hard time finding a second hand one I'm afraid. Just calll as many scrap yards as you can and keep calling. There is a huge one in Limerick, but you will be lucky to get through at certain times during the day. Partfinders.ie also.
    Best of luck anyway.
Edit: I see you got one - fair play

    I was thinking that too..

£275 (~335e) seem ok to everyone? How much do you think for labour?

It is. By all accounts thats a contributing factor in the vans. The took the Laguna gearbox and stuck it in. Add a heavy load to that and the gearbox doesnt like it.

So you didn't actually spend the €700? That's good news anyway! Glad to hear you found a new gearbox, keep us posted on how you get on.

Whats the story with Traynors; do they ship the parts or would I have to head up north to collect them?

I think they do a once a week delivery to the Red Cow in Dublin, but call them to be certain.

    Not sure

    Call 04838-891242

They are very easy to deal with and are based on Armagh - Moy Road. Not that far from Dublin (dunno where you are located) with the new motorway that opened recently. took me 1h45 from Dun Laoghaire to Armagh recently
