I'm in the same boat and i'm going into 2nd years Arts.

Basically, once you've done your 3 years in Arts and have gotten minimum of a 2.1in your degree, you can then apply to do a Higher Diploma in Psychology as a post grad. The course is 2 years long and it's a conversion course i.e. it converts yours Arts degree to a Psychology degree. Once that is done you can then apply to do a Masters in whatever branch of Psychology and specialise etc.

The workload is nothing major in Psychology in first year Arts. One essay and two end of year exams.

They may have changed this as the calendar and module info say different. :/

FIRST ARTS Students take 15 credits as follows:
AP1110, AP1123, AP1149 (5 credits per module) and the assessment for each module is - Total Marks 100: End of Year Written Examination 50 marks; Continuous Assessment 50 marks (1 x 1,500 word essay).

    So... 3 x 1.5k Essays and 3 x 1.5hr Exams.

If anyone knows which is correct it would be good to know, as I'm also going to be taking psychology. :)

The above could be right as they have changed how the course is examined every year for the last few years.

I'm open to correction, but as far as I know you're guaranteed your first two subject choices. You might not get your third and fourth though, depending on numbers and all the rest.

    That's correct.

I did English and Psychology through Arts but ended up doing a single honours in English. Psychology is interesting but I found you have to have a really strong passion/interest in it to enjoy it. :)

I did my BA in English and Psychology in UCC. Loved it! :) Don't let first year psychology put you off, I wasn't too keen on some of the stuff in first year but the second and third year modules were really interesting! Got to study forensic psychology and abnormal psychology in third year!
