Help us to Help you read the sticky on how to ask for phone rec
    • What features are important to you in a phone? (i.e. camera, gps, FM radio, Stereo Bluetooth)
    • Form factor - i.e. touchscreen, slider, flip phone, etc.
    • Internet - is 3G/mobile internet important, or WiFi/EDGE
    • Operator - have you an operator preference
    • Pre-pay/Bill-pay/SIM-Free - have you a preference for either
    • Price range

i could say the galaxy comes after but it might be completely irrelevant to your needs

Im in the same boat myself

Ive had an I-phone for the last 3 years and looking to go on bill pay with Meteor

I was in CPW yesterday and I can get the Galaxy for 90 euro on a year contract

I wouldnt mind a HTC though, will I just wait or go for the Galaxy?

Whats next to the desire on the HTC range

    Thanks in advance

tbh (some might disagree) samsung galaxy is a cheap (build quality) looking version of the iPhone...even its UI reminds you of the iPhone iOS...

id wait out a couple of weeks seeing as meteor is starting to get them back as few people in other threads have said they got desires with a new screen already

    Thanks for that Evo

I think Ill ride out the storm for another month or so and keep checking with Meteor for the Desire

I do think the Galaxy is very iphoney,I like the look of the legend though
What do you think-legend or wait?

02 bills are killing me at the moment,as most friends/ family are on Meteor

    Cheers

well legend doesnt have as good specs as the desire...its great for the average joe though and havent heard any complaints about here yet...

but for a bit more high end you can sit pretty and wait for the desire...as i said some people on this forum already posted that they got new ones :)

if you like to play good games that extra power on the desire helps :)

It you can get over the look of the device or like it then I would definitely consider it over the Desire. Launcher pro should be your first port of call if you don't like the UI.

What a load of rubbish. Anybody with a brain would disagree. The thing with the Galaxy S is that its a light phone, some people think if something is light it must be made of poorer quailty materials, others consider it progress. Guess what they are both made from plastic, the desire has a different texture to its plastic but its still plastic none the less. Drop any of these phones on concrete from ear height and depending how they impact they will shatter.

As for looking like the IPhone, yes its a rectangular type structure with a screen surrounded by plastic, yes rather like the IPhone or maybe even your beloved HD2. The samsung UI is nothing like the IPhones, yes it has icons and it scrolls left and right (I hope that not the only reason it reminds you of the IPhone) but way more flexible. But if it is not to your taste you can always replace it.

I would say if you got either the desire of galaxy s you would not be disappointed.

If it were me I would wait as coming so close to christmas there is bound to be new devices coming to market.

wait for the HTC event next month to see if it is actually the desire HD that they are releasing.

dude...sorry if i triggered a rage atack there but most people (especially people who wouldnt have a clue about phones) would straight away point out that galaxy is a cheap looking copy of the iPhone...the plastic that the galaxy is built from feels cheap...nowhere as nice the hand as HTC phones...and ask any one that own a decent HTC phone that it feels great to hold it cause of the plactic texture they use which feel lmao great

lmao no one even mentioned the weight

Bear in mind the Galaxy has not got a flash, where as the Desire does. It can make a significant differnence for low light pics.

I was in the same boat with vodafone, waiting patiently for the Desire to comeback into stock. Eventually got fed up and went with a Galaxy. They are a lovely phone and compare favorably with the Desire, they are also very good value at the moment.

If you have the patience and aren't in a rush by all means hang on a few weeks or months and see what comes up but if you want something now get a Galaxy and if the feel of it is not to your liking get a leather case on ebay, you won't be disappointed.

I am dissapointed they didn't put a flash on the galaxy s alright, more because they make a very handy flash light rather than for taking night photos. Night photos taken with led flashes rarely look good.

The galaxy s also has a front facing camera if you are into video chat.

hmm i love being able to turn on my LED flash to use it as a flashlight :) would be really a missed feature if that went...

pictures with phone flash are never great but its better than nothing if your a kodak moment type of person :)

theres plenty of desire being sold with amoled screens on the internet...

I visited two branches or CPW last week, one insisted the Galaxy S was €130, the other €99, both on the €35 p.m. 12 month contract. The Desire is (or was) a little more, mine was €159 (IIRC) back in May on the same tariff. May be less now.

The Meteor website says the Galaxy S is 180 on the 35pm 12 month contract.

Cheaper from CPW. I was buying one for €99 but they had no stock.

CPW it is then, I had presume handsets were a fixed price everywhere.

I presume CPW have more buying power than Meteor... I don't know how/why they're cheaper..

Ah, I thought they were just acting on commission, receiving stock and selling it off for that network.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,495 ✭✭✭Abelloid

I should mention any saving on the initial price will be offset by the cost of insurance; I believe CPW is €12 but Meteor is only €6.99.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 feadog

You can always buy in CPW then ring Meteor after to arrange the insurance - that's what I did...
