cannot connect to internet - inspiron 15

My firend's computer (Inspiron 15) cannot connect to the internet via our wireless connection. They have used their laptop on the connection a lot without issue until now. Now it does detect the connection, and says it's connected to it. However when I go into the router via the web browser on my own laptop, it lists her computer as being inactive. It also says "unidentified public network", instead of the connection name, in the "currently connected to" dialogue.

My laptop connects to the internet ok. Windows 7 is installed on both.

I ran ipconfig on both laptops and the settings were the same, apart from link-local IPv6.

She ran the troubleshooter, and it said it the default gateway was not available. [The address for the gateway was the same as in mine, when ipconfig was run].

I restarted the modem. My laptop reconnected ok. The problem with her one persisted.

Currently running a virus scan on her laptop.

    Any suggestions?

    Not unless they happened automatically.
    Virus scan didn't detect anything.

edit: After exhausting other options, she restored the laptop to factory settings, and it works again now.
