    Hi all,

I'm doing IT and want to get into programming for handhelds.

I just got an iPhone 3GS as an upgrade but it doesn't support Java natively so I'm thinking of selling it and going for something running Android.

    Any device/program recommendations or hints/tips?

You also don't need a mac or a dev license to develop for android.

As above, get a desire if you have the cash

You don't even need a phone for android development - get eclipse with the sdk and emulator.
