iphone 3gs jailbreak and unlock question???

    i am currently running 3.1.3 and it is jailbroken and unlocked.
    can i update to the latest software and unlock the phone.
    i know if i update the to the latest firmware the phone will need to be activated with the original sim card. the phone was bought from england but i dont have an english sim so those that mean i cant, because if cant activate the phone i cant jailbreak it.
