hi, can anyone tell me is the BMW 318 actually bigger inside than the 316? or is it just a bigger engine.
Have a '96 318 engine is a 1.8, as the 316's now have a 1.8 engine, (looking '03/'04) the room I've got now is grand but wouldn't want to go any smaller
Mostly concerned with space in the back seat for the kids(saloon car not coupe)

3 series saloon is the same size regardless. Only the engine & possibly stardard spec changes.

Do you really want the worst available engine in the car

The 361 and the 318 are the same size, but I think the car you're looking for, being a newer generation, may be bigger than the one you have. Best thing is to go and have a look at one.

Are you scrapping the '96 318i? I might be looking for an engine/ parts donor car if you are thinking about parting with it...

A 2003 E46 will be a bit more spacious that your 1996 E36, but not by much. Best way is to have a look at one and take your tape measure.
