Sony Digital8 to DVD/Digital format (.mov, etc)

    Hi folks,

Long story. I got married abroad (in Montenegro) last year and paid a local guy to record the event. I now have 6 Sony Digital8 videos from my wedding. I had intended on editing them myself as a pet project, but I have not been able to find anywhere to (cheaply/reasonably) transfer them to a digital format. Anywhere in Dublin I've contacted have quoted me prices similar to that of buying a second hand camera off eBay.

Anyone know anyone here in Ireland who would be willing/able to provide this service at a decent rate.

Living in Dublin, but willing to register post the tapes somewhere to be done.

    Cheers,

    T

Well I've done this before- well I do video weddings for a living.

As I see it you have tapes but no camcorder to play it into your computer.

I am up to my tonsils right now and could do it maybe in mid/late november

I'd usually charge about €15 per tape (I'm not on here looking for work)

Perhaps you can consider getting a cheap camcorder on ebay and then using it to transfer onto your computer?

Seen a few camcorders on ebay that would play Digital8 that are only $80. Maybe try to play it with them, onto the PC? Slap a cleaning tape into it before you use it, and see how it goes.
