    Hi,
I have a personal FB account.
My company wants to set up a Business Page on FB.
Should I set up a new account on FB using a generic info@company.ie mail account or use my existing account to set it up.
I dont want messages from the page coing from my account, etc.
But facebook seem to have strict rules about setting up more than one account.

    Thanks

I would recommend linking the FB page to the company's email address for a these reasons:

1 - keep it professional, you don't want to be reading all the updates during the weekends or on holidays!

2 - Other people can log in that way too without having to have access to your personal account, as above plus you might not work for this company forever so it facilitates someone else taking over if needed.

To be honest, I would never link my own personal address to anything company related for that reason. Plus a "info at company" looks so much more professional!

    Hop that helps,

    Thanks for the reply.
But a business account seems limited in fb. see http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=904.

"What is the difference between a business account and a user profile?
Business accounts are designed for individuals who only want to use the site to administer Pages and their ad campaigns. For this reason, business accounts do not have the same functionality as personal accounts. Business accounts have limited access to information on the site. An individual with a business account can view all the Pages and Social Ads that they have created, however they will not be able to view the profiles of users on the site or other content on the site that does not live on the Pages they administer. In addition, business accounts cannot be found in search and cannot send or receive friend requests."

Also that page states you cant have more than one account. Could this be counted as a second account?

Yes. If you follow the rules to the letter of the law, a business account is only for someone who wishes to use the functionality of a Facebook business page/adverts/etc but without having or needing a personal account. If you already have a personal account, you shouldn't set up a business account.

Having said that, I know of many businesses that have set up their business page via a 'dupe account'. I've never heard of any running into any issues, but it's a risk I'd rather avoid personally.

You can easily add other users as 'admins', so you don't need to give them access to your personal account to let them administer the page. There is no 'obvious' link between your personal account and any pages you manage (unless you choose to declare the links), so no issues in terms of privacy/professionalism there.

    Thanks Paul,
You say there is no obvious link between my personal account and a page.
But I set up a page under my profile, and sent a message to someone from this page, they see the sender as Me!
Is there a way to change this?

Not yet, although it is on the list for future changes for them to make down the line (at least, it is according to the information they've previously given in the dev section).

A 'page' isn't an account (so doesn't have an inbox/messaging), so any messages sent must come from a representative of the page (e.g. from a specific member of staff/identifiable person). In theory (at least the original theory, they are adapting to what businesses actually want over time so I do expect this to change) a business should communicate with it's fans via the public status updates and posts (although you can use 'customize' to select a demographic of users to receive an individual post - take care with that one, it also limits who gets to see comments/likes on those posts, so hurts the marketing side of things there due to a lack of free exposure) and not via private messages, which should only be between two 'accounts'.

    Making more sense now, thanks

I personally don't view it as a 'negative' (possibly due to me accepting I can't control it and just making the best of what's available :p), although I do agree it's not ideal at times.

If I'm dealing with a business, I find it much better to think of it as a "I was just talking to Garlad about that problem and he's going to take care of it, seemed a good guy so I'm happy enough to trust him" rather than "I got an anonymous message from the company who say I shouldn't worry. Probably being pushed from desk to desk to be ignored for days.".

Making business communication transparent, with a user/member of staff having ownership of the message/problems/solutions/etc, is seldom if ever a bad thing in my own mind.

What i did as i have 3 business's, is a created a fan page for each, also created 3 new facebook pages, calling them the names of my company, this way i get twice the advertising.

What kind of company is it? If you sell stuff on it, Private mail me.

    Giz,
Whats the difference between a fan page and a facebook page?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59 ✭✭Gizmoses

A facebook page only let's you hold 5000 friends were as a fan page is unlimited, plus it's always better to keep your personal away from your business, another advantage of a fan page is that you can name it as your business, you can add links and post daily, if you want I would be more than happy to set you up.

This only happens if you message somebody directly. The best way is to respond to them on your business page and then the post appears as being from the business. If it's omething sensitive then they shouldn't be doing it over FB or you can request them e-mail a company address.

Great stuff guys, some fantastic and straight forward reasons that I personally struggled with getting answers to. Although I still struggle to know my nest step!!

I need help on the following, I have my own personal page created which is what I want, so that's ok.....

I then went about creating a business page, which was created ok then I went back to log in and it "made" me create a personal page which I assumed I had to, but then all my friends & likes go to this personal one!!!!!

I hope this is not to confusing, it is for me though???

I do need it seperated as I am potentially losing a lot of traffic and I know it would save me a lot of time etc.
