Want to keep getting out even as the rains come in

If you have a look in Arnotts running section or out in Sportsworld in Terenure you will find light jackets for running from different manufacturers.

However in my experience a light breathable jacket will be ok in light showers but in heavy showers you will still get wet. A waterproof jacket will keep the rain out, but you will over heat and sweat like a pig, so you will end up drenched anyways.

So for me, as long as the run is not too long and the weather is mild, I would just run without a jacket and get wet. Once the weather turns cold, I would run in a waterproof jacket with a light long sleeved top on in the rain. I will sweat, but I will stay warm.

Just my Opinion. Also you might get more specific replies if you asked on the A/R/T forum.

Any sort of windbreaker should keep you warm in the rain. Anything too heavy and you'll be too warm. I have some windproof jackets like these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/c/run/8/Jackets_-_Run_Windproof/ you don't really overheat in them but they keep the chill from the rain out, although you still get wet. Even in a waterproof jacket you'll still get wet in heavy rain and you'll be too warm.

I'd recommend just getting a light baseball cap to wear and forget about the jacket altogether, the jacket is really only useful until you warm up and then it just gets annoying. You shouldn't feel the cold while running as you're continuously moving anyway.

They are always selling running and walking jackets in Lidl and Aldi. They are light and breathable and about as good as anything you'll buy else where at about a quarter of the price.
Otherwise as RQ says, any light windbreaker will do (though not a totally waterproof as that would just become a sauna.

I got the Montane FeatherLite Velo Jacket, it's a bike jacket but I use it for bike and running, love it. Very light and breathable. At €50, it is a bit on the expensive side but worth it.

I think gortex is your man here, very light yet keeps you dry in heavy rain and doesn't retain sweat.

Sports World (Heitons) are selling off Karrimor branded gear at the moment - seen some running jackets reduced from £39 to €20 (from memory) - bright yellow also good for the winter.

I picked up a nice one in TK Maxx recently, and it doesn't have me passing out with the heat, like my Lidl one does.

That's true for walking. Gortex will keep you dry and let the perspiration out.

However, I don't think breathable jackets work for running. You are producing too much sweat for the moisture to be expelled and you end up clammy inside. A very light wind-proof layer which is not fully waterproof, such as the Montane Featherlite mentioned above, is the most comfortable for the conditions.

+1 you will always get wet be it from rain in a light jacket or sweat in a gortex. I think the real us of such is to keep the wind from whipping the water off your body and cooling down, if you run in an exposed part of the country it can stop you from getting cool on easy runs. If you run in the hills then it's practically mandatory to at least carry one.

Decent running ones have vents in the side/back, some have detachable sleeves to act as a body-warmer and stops clammy arms (my pet hate). Hat with peak is also brilliant in the rain, when it's not splashing on your face then you'd almost not notice the rain!

Goretex will have you soaked with sweat. I've a light north face outer shell. Works well but isn't water proof.

Not at all, they're breathable it doesn't retain sweat, well at least a good quality one won't

I should also probably add it might depend on how long your running for, I've never had an issue tho

Def agree, got one on ebay with running shorts for 36 euro, recommend it, you will still get wet in the heavy rain though.
