wisdom teeth, implants, gunshot wounds etc. great future!:)

Just be aware that this is not a specialist training programme - you will not be an oral & maxillofacial surgeon, or an oral surgeon, at the completion of it. Oral & maxillofacial surgery would require you to have a medical degree in addition to your BDS, and to then follow a defined postgraduate training pathway of up to 7 years. Oral surgery, on the other hand, requires 3 years full-time post-grad training on a recognised training programme

The MSc you are considering seems to be designed simply to offer experience in minor oral surgery, and assisting on orthognathic cases etc. To me £27000 a year for this seems very steep, given that you will not have a specialist qualification at the end of it. In fact, this type of experience sounds very much like what you would get if you did a SHO post in max-fac, for which you would be paid a salary!

However, if you are considering the programme, I would suggest that you contact the programme director and discuss the aims and scope with him / her. Also ask to be put in contact with some current students and some recent graduates to find out what prospects or opportunities may arise from this type of course.

    Best of luck!

This is a Higher Degree programme offered by the University of Glasgow, this year only 2 seats are available .
After completion of this program the students about to graduate this September are planning to do the following:
One student is taking her studies forward and has registered for a 3
year PhD at Glasgow Dental School, starting in October 2010.
One student is applying to the National Health Service (NHS) for a
Senior House Officer (SHO) post. Application for any jobs with the NHS
need to be made directly to NHS recruitment and appointment is via
    competitive interview.
One student has arranged a one year clinical attachment programme for
    which further funding was required.
One student is studying for MFDS through the Royal College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Glasgow, to whom direct application needs to be made.
This year only 2 seats are available this is a Higher
Degree programme offered by the University of Glasgow.
