Well im not sure about Glen dara for craic an what not but I can tell its not very close to the campus compared to other student accomondation. Its a good 20-30 min walk so you'd need to get a bus an its not too handy for nights out as youll more tha likely need taxis.I'd advise for you to maybe look for something in corrib village or that other one place something na coiribe...whcih both are great for craic an quite close to the campus an town although finding accomodation there might be a little tricky at this stage however youre alone so it mightnt be too hard.I'm not sure on which of the 3 is cheaper so you should definatly look at all 3 for the best value for money(take travel into account).Hope this helps a little.

you'd be better getting a house in the newcastle area. way closer to the college.

friend lived in gleann dara last year. anytime it was raining, he didn't feel like walking in. that was a lot of the time btw :D

look on galway advertiser, daft, student accommodation forum.

I lived in Gleann Dara in 1st year, depends how far up the back you live, bt I lived at the front, took about 15-20 mins to walk.

Houses are fairly spacious and the rent is fairly cheap... 60 to 70 euro for a single room compared to what youd pay in Corrib village and the likes.

Its right beside Dun Aras, and we were always up there, was great craic. Last year they laid on a shuttle bus but not sure whether or not youd be able to use it?

Maybe if your on your own though it would be easier to jus live in student accomodation, but if you want to go for the cheaper option, youd prob be better with Gleann Dara.

I liked living there, but moved in closer last year. Student acccomodation was def not for me, wouldnt like the security etc, and is expensive, but most people love it and is easy to make friends. Thats why I liked Gleann Dara tho, best of both worlds between havin your own house and bein so close to DunAras.

Hope that helps somehow! Youll have a great year anyway, no matter where u live :)

I lived in Gleann Dara last year and it is 20 minutes away, but as previously said, it depends on where you are in the estate.
but it was the best year of my life. So many students live there and it was great craic.
Plus you now have King Dings chinese at the front of the estate and you are very near dunnes and other shops and an off licence.
However I would recommend the Newcastle area as it is that bit too far out
