    hi folks

    need some fashion advice please

have recently gotten a new job... dont really want to say what it is but its a very senior role with a lot of contact with the public and a huge amount of responsibility

i need to wear suits or otherwise quite dressy clothes.

at the moment, u tend to wear trousers and a cardi or top from the likes of next, wallis etc

however, without wanting to sound snobby, in the new job i'll need to be wearing better and smarter clothes

i'm a size 16/18 depending on the shop.

not really into skirts or dresses, as dont have the legs

can anyone advise on where i would get suitable clothes

i'm relatively young (31) so dont want to look too fuddy duddy

    please help!

Am interested in the same topic as am in the same position. Size 12-14. Like yourself need better quality than next, wallis. Was going to look at Hobbs at Dundrum? I also think Coast are starting to get separates suitable for work in.

I also need to get decent shoes or boots if anyone can recommend.

I'd say Next would be your best bet for mid range suits - I've had a few in the past and they wear quite well without costing a fortune and their sizing is good

Aldo have some nice boots at the moment, lots of different styles

I find Next suits do nothing for me. I'm 12/14 and the thighs are always way too tight and the waist massive!

If you're in Dublin OP I would suggest having a look in Clerys, Arnotts or BTs. Clerys stock Mexx which make nice "young" suits. Also BTs stock Quinn & Donnelly. Their suits are a little expensive at around 250 - 300. However I have two and I have both of them years and they are still in great shape. They also do really nice separates.

For nice tops for work you could have a look in Whistles in BTs. Also Reiss are quite good for work wear!

I find with work clothes I pick them up as I go along. Maybe start out with a suit and trousers and a few tops and pick up a few more bits as the season goes on. I ended up buying a dress for work on holidays this summer!

I know you mentioned that you don't have the legs for skirts/dresses, but you could always consider wearing a black skirt/dress with nice coloured tights when the winter arrives. I don't think there are many legs out there that don't look good in a nice skirt and tights - so don't be afraid to be adventurous!

Am in a similar position and I found my saving grace in Debenhams. They have a great range of suits in a great range of styles and sizes, I got a lovely grey one on sale too :)
