I know basically nothing about cars, I'll start off by saying that.

I'm looking for something reliable, that will fit a set of golfclubs in the back, that isn't going to drink petrol like the clappers, for around €3000. Not overly worried about how it looks tbh, just need to get from A to B. Any recommendations appreciated.

I've been looking for a car at this price level too and think I've settled on an Audi A3. Seems to me it suits both men and women, is big enough for golf clubs, tax and insurance not too bad, it looks pretty stylish if you get a nice model, it has the (kinda) premium marque badge, and are so common that I imagine parts and maintenance aren't too bad.

I'd prefer an '02 with no more than 80k miles (I'm a light car user) but that spec will be just a bit above €3k at the moment I think. Closer to €4k in fact, so I might look at '00 and '01 models with similar mileage which you might just get for the €3k. Just need to avoid the ones with the nasty diamond-patterned interior!

Fwiw, I don't know anything about cars either.

What about a nissan almera hatchback you'd get an 02 or 03 for that money with a reasonable milage.

You could pick up an 02 ford focus too for that sort of money.
