My wife's car a Honda Jazz is having a problem with the accelerator peddle, when you start it up in the morning it's stuck won't budge, but after a few mins it's Ok again, anyone any ideas before I bring it to a mechanic?

That's a dodgy one, don't let your wife drive that until it's looked at.
Years ago I had a Mazda 323 and the throttle cable jammed on me, got the fright of my life with it. It took me a few secs to realise to take her into neutral as the only means to slow it down.

How old is the car ? Does it use a throttle cable ?

I had an issue like that before. Turns out the throttle cable has split, so a cable "spliter" was folded onto itself, so it couldnt pass through from the engine bay into the back of the pedal. You could try and see if you can manually rev the car through the throttle bay, which will show if its a throttle/engine/pedal/cable issue.

My wife sold her '02 jazz a couple of years ago and last year she recieved a Recall notice from Honda, I think it may have had something to do with the throttle ... can't be 100% sure.

Give your local honda dealer a bell and ask if there is a recall on the Jazz and you might get a bit of joy from them

The butterfly valve within the throttle body may be sticking, and may just need cleaning.

And just to be absolutely sure, make sure floor-mats/debris aren't stopping the pedal :)
