Large amount of earth filling - what to do with it!

    Lads,

I have a large amount of earth filling in a big pile on the land at home. Mostly from excavation of house site many moons ago. It's not bad stuff. I would say half is on the muddy side and half is slightly gravelly soil.

I'm thinking of getting a digger in to build a ditch with it at the eastern and nortrhern sides of the yard, say four foot at the base and 4.5 to 5 feet high. Shake a bit of grass seed on it, to help keep weeds off of it.
Maybe plant blackthorn or something on one side to make a nice hedge in time. Would it make sense, or would I be better off just leveling it off somewhere?

We did that with clay from a slatted tank.
It worked well other than the weeds going mental though this is trivial enough to sort
Make sure you get a good batter on it so it doesn't slip.
Depending on the size and quantity of the stone would you try scrrening it for clean filling?

Which did you do? Ditch for shelter or support for silage pit.
