Has anyone seen many of these? I've seen a few of them now and they're all pretty damn good. Batman: Under the Red Hood is the latest and it's fantastic, they don't hold back on the violence and the stories are all top notch. The Green Lantern one was great too, hopefully they can show the live action one as much care. Batman/Superman: Public Enemies was ok as was Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Public Enemies probably the poorest of those 4. They're way better than their Marvel counterparts. Anyone seen any others??

Batman: Under the Red Hood: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1569923/

    Batman/Superman: Public Enemies: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1398941/

    Green Lantern: First Flight: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1384590/

Justice LEague: Crisis on Two Earths: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1494772/

And a classic Batman Mask of The Phantasm:http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106364/ (still the best batman movie ever ;))

    You forgot Wonder Woman http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1186373/
The green latern first fligth is a wonderful introduction to Hal and the Lantern Corps.
I haven't seen Crisis on Two Earths yet.

    Dont forget superman: doomsday.

Yes, I thought Superman: Doomsday is the best of the lot. Awesomely long fight sequence in it. The score is pretty good as well.

Although the recent Batman: Under the Red Hood is quite good too.

And by all means please DO forget Superman: Brainiac Attacks.

Mystery of the Batwoman was really good one though. As was the Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Some very dark stuff in that one.

ah yea forgot about Doomsday. The Batman Beyond one was great yeah, not seen the Wonderwoman one or the Batwoman one yet.

Have seen most of them and they're OK. I kinda liked the humour (in no small part helped by the wonderful voice acting of Nathan Fillion) in Wonder Woman. I know the idea is to focus on previous comic stories and to distance them from the Timm/Diniverse animated series but I just don't like the character design/voice acting (apart from aforementioned Fillion). Whenever I hear Batman or The Joker or Lex Luthor without Kevin Conway, Mark Hamill and Clancy Brown it grates.

Mask Of The Phantasm was fantastic. But it, and the great Batman Beyond:Return Of The Joker, were both part of the Timm/Diniverse.

Conroy still did the voice in Public Enemies. He will always be Batman's voice to me, same with Hamil and the Joker.

Mask of the Phantasm was very good. That fight scee in Superman: Doomsday was bloody well epic. My favourite(of what I've seen) is Return of the Joker. Quality film altogether.

It's worth watching just for James Woods as Owlman.

ive seen pretty much all of em and TBH i wish marvel would get more into the act, particularly in the adapting previous comic stories. i'd kill to get an "infinity gauntlet" DVD.

    :)

I know theyve done a few but the DC ones seem to be far superior in quality at this stage.

i was REALLY impressed with wonder woman which surprised me in how daring it was (LOVED how they demonstrated the truth compelling powers of the lasso :) ).

quite alot of dark stuff in there.

the crisis on two earths was up there too though i have a special place for the justice league final frontier too as it was the first one i saw and the fifties setting made for a very interesting story considering the politics of the time.

im a marvel zombie at heart but i have to say DC are walking all over em in the DVD stakes.

There was an Avengers movie that was pretty good though.

It set in the future and Ultron had taken over the world and defeated all the Earth's heroes.

Tony Stark was left and was raising the kids of all the Avengers and training them to take on Ultron.

    avengers next

    :)

can bearly remember it now but im pretty sure the maestro is in it (future hulk) living out in a cave in the desert and comes in to help the kids. thought they did that very well.

it was ok but TBH i wish they'd just produce the stuff we WANT to see. the ultimate avergers was ok but a literal (well as much as you can do) adaptation of the series hitch and co did would just be fantastic.

in fairness the doctor strange one was very good and quite creepy in places. delved fairly deeply into the lore of the character too. hulk Vs thor is probably the most enjoyable one ive seen lately. the wolverine one was cool too but it felt more like just a straight fight.

that said planet hulk is probably the closest to what DC has been putting out in terms of quality. theres some really brave stuff in it.

Check out Justice League: The New Frontier if you can

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0902272/

It translated really well from comic to film

I absolutely LOVE the DC animated movies.

Justice League: New Frontier was fantastic!! Great that they foccused on the lesser powered heroes to get the job done in the end!

Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths was great too, not the best but it done what it was supposed to do.... Entertain.

Superman Batman: Public Enemies was brilliant I thought. Always enjoy seeing Bats and Supes team up. And the whole President Lex recruiting Heroes was a good storyline.

Superman Batman: Apocalypse was EPIC!!!! The fight scenes with Superman/Darksied/Supergirl were fantastic. And Batman standing up to Darksied was great too!!!!

Superman: Braniac attacks was basically taken from the cartoon series but was pretty good.

Superman Batman: Worlds Finest, as above.

Superman: Doomsday was one of my fav!! The fight scenes were awesome and pretty violent too!!!

Has anyone seen the new DC shorts? Superman Captain Marvel: Return of Black Adam, or the new Green Arrow one?? They're well worth a look.

Just watch the Under the hood film. Very good, but it did bring back why i stopped reading Batman comics. all the same, they let off killers all the time who seem to escape every week and go on more Killing. its what i liked about the red hood, tackled the issue that is it not some times better to just end it.

There's been a few new ones lately, I watched one called Justic league: Doom. It was pretty good, based on the Tower of Babel graphic novel. Shows a certain side of Batman's character that we don't get to see too often :)

There's another one coming out called Superman Vs. The Elite too, haven't seen it yet though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,520 ✭✭✭allibastor

saw it a few days ago. good except for the British punk feel.
super man looked a little stupid to, had a massive chin for some reason. Your man manchester Black was good though, though i got the feeling the Elite were modeled after the Boys comic, or else vice versa.

Any talk of any new Wonder Woman animated followup?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,465 ✭✭✭kitakyushu

Going to recommend "Batman Year One". It's one of the best things I saw last year in all films.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_Year_One_(film)

It's pretty much beat for beat remake of the comic book but if you haven't read that (as I hadn't at the time of seeing the movie) it really is quite startling. Also might be interesting for Nolan fans to see the riffs that reappeared in Batman Begins.

If Bruce Wayne isn't in the cowl, it ain't for me. However, the BB: Return Of The Joker movie was awesome.

I enjoyed Batman:Gotham Knight the stories were good and the different animation styles especially in the story with the kids talking about each having seen him and their very different descriptions.

Must check out some of the ones mentioned on this thread

Wasn't that an episode of New Batman Adventures? Iirc, there was one story that was done in the style of 60s Batman and another lifted shot-for-shot from The Dark Knight Returns. Was that episode just dropped into Gotham Knights?

They similar to each other all right but the Gotham Knight one doesn't lift stories from the comics. Just how the kids each have a completely different view of him

I had a look at wikipedia and it seems it is similar to a story done in the animated show.

    A great story either way!

Just watched it. The release date is September 25th, but...yeah, it's out there. Pretty good. Only 76 mins running time, but then again, that's to be expected when part 2 comes out next year.

The soundtrack was brilliant, felt a bit like Deus Ex Human Revolution crossed with Hans Zimmer's Dark Knight Rises. Really solid work.

Finally got to watch it lastnight, loved it. Animation is brilliant, and I thought the sound and score was brilliant. Voice acting a little dodgy in places, but overall good.

There were a few weird moments between Bats and Carrie with weird awkward silent stares at each other, made me feel like I was watching Drive :pac:

Can't wait for part two now, the ending of this story is one of my favourite moments in all the Batman graphic novels...also cant wait to see
him pound on Joker and the neck break :)

Out of the DC Animated movies I've seen that aren't based on a series, my favourite is probably Wonder Woman. I was very pleasantly surprised with it. Probably helped by Fillion.

But I've still to see Superman/Batman Apocolypse, All-Star Superman, Batman: Year One, Justice League: Doom, Superman vs. The Elite and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 as well as Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam and DC Showcase: Catwoman.

I really need to get watching

Saw it the other night as well and it really reminded me of Drive as well. Don't know if it was the lack of the comics internal dialogue or the synth music.
Have to say I loved it but am pissed off that I have to wait around 6 months for the conclusion. Can't wait to see James woods as the Joker.

It's a bit annoying alright that there's such a big gap between them, thought maybe with them being straight to DVD release it mightn't be so long

For me, that's what really sets The Dark Knight Returns apart from so many other graphic novels. Rather than simply being a comeback tale describing a man out of retirement with unexplainable physical strength, we get an insight into how Bruce Wayne is aware of and fears the creaking in his bones yet has the mental strength to overcome it all.

Nice to see that the animated film hasn't strayed drastically away from the original artwork. Really fell in love with Miller's pencil work and Janson's ink skills after the graphic novel!

It's the music that's very reminescent of Drive. I've seen so many of these and they're fantastic. They put the live action films to shame. I can't express how much I love them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,217 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Wasn't overly gone on this to be honest. Didn't like the voices. I much preferred the little segment in Batman TAS with Michael Ironside doing the voice (Especially his "I believe you" and "Rubber Bullets. Promise" lines) and it was even closer in style to the novel. (Although I may be biased as I got a cel from it)
