    My class is doing...
    Hamlet for single text.
And for the comparitive, Wuthering Heights, Dancing at Lughnasa and Casablanca.

But some other classes decided to do How many miles to Babylon, Dancing at Lughnasa and Il Postino as their comparitive.

    For 2011?? :D
If this is true then I may just keep on English when I'm repeating as we studied those texts this year and it'll be no bother!
ETA: OP there is an amazing book called Key Notes out which compares these three texts amazingly.

Hamlet for single text. How many Miles to Babylon, Dancing at Lughnasa and Billy Elliot for comparative. I have to say How many Miles to Babylon and Dancing at Lughnasa are very boring, and therefore hard to study. :)

Anyhoo.....OP, my class are doing Hamlet as the single text and Babylon, Casablanca and Sive for the comparative.

Wuthering Heights is heavy going for a comparative. It's so long that if I was doing it myself I'd have it as the single text. However, if you're familiar with the text, it'd be handy enough. Babylon is a grand, handy, short novel that would slot nicely in if you picked Conflict as your theme. Mind you, there's no shortage of conflict in WH either.

As for Cultural Context, you have three nice texts there to compare. There are plenty of similarities and differences to make it interesting. You have different settings, the role of women is interesting as they are limited in their choices in all three texts and money/status are important in all three. You could also repeat some of your points on conflict as part of CC (if that isn't too confusing).

comparative: Lies of Silence, Dancing at Lughnasa, not too sure yet on the film, but my teacher has said we are doing one if them, not another literary type (ie: book or play)

    single: Hamlet:confused:

I'm only coming across this thread now, woops!
Anyone got any ideas on how the role of women effects the cultural context of The Constant Gardener?

and Wordsworth HAS to come up this year?? Surely he'll be up?

    Hamlet is our single text.

For the comparative we're studying Billy Elliot, Dancing at Lughnasa and Purple Hibiscus.

Dancing at Lughnasa is a very boring story line but my teacher made it enjoyable to study! :)

    What story line? :p

Nothing actually happens in the play. There's no climax or plot.

That said, watching it live is pretty good I must say.
