I assume that all parcels coming from a country outside Europe is x-rayed and scrutinized by Irish customs but does the same apply for packages coming from other EU countries like the UK or Germany? Can anyone explain how the Irish postal customs system works?

Without trying to be smart, would it not be easier to ring customs?

Surely they would be in the best position to answer your bona fide questions?

Chinese immigrants for slave labour. I'm getting them shipped in parcels and hoping the lads watching the x-ray screens won't spot them or at least turn a blind eye to it.

No I really want to order a wireless media centre from a German site but don't wanna get taxed by customs because its expensive enough as it is.

I believe everything is x-rayed now since there is that crackdown on illegal cigarette trade.

You won't get taxed on a purchase from another EU country (that's kinda what this whole EU thingy is about :D)

    Would x-rays harm the electronics?

Ah right, thats a relief. I'll order everything from the EU from now on then. As for x-rays damaging electronics I don't think so. According to this site

x-rays don't damage electronic components or magnetic storage disks. Strong magnetic fields probably do though since they can induce current in a moving conductor so you wouldn't wanna bring electronic devices in an MRI with you.
