On my way back from belfast this morning a passed a gatso van on the side of the road it was in the 60MPH section. I was driving an 09 jeep so it only had Km on the speedo. I was hovering around the 100Km/h mark when I noticed it. Then about five minutes later on the same stretch of road there were two police sitting on the side of the road with a speed gun, I was still doing around the same speed. They cops never flagged me down so I think I may have been alright there but when I got back into my car this afternoon which does have both MPH and KM/h on the speedo I noticed that 100km/ph is a bit over the 60 limit.

Im pretty sure the cross border points initiative hasn't been introduced yet but I just wanted to double check. Its really annoying as I was actually trying to stick to the limit but in a new car this very difficult.

100kmph is 62mph so youll be okay either way so long as "hovering around" means on or very near!

Most speedos record speeds slightly above actual, so even at 100 kph you were probably not going above 60 mph - certainly not at a speed that would warrant points.

No one knows when its coming in. There is issues with points value speeding in the UK attracts 3 points versus 2 here etc. The computer systems are not compatible either.

OP you are fine no points no fine. They are looking for people well in excess of the limit.

As long as 'hovering around' doesn't mean 70 or 80mph you'll be ok.

Nah hovering around means I was between 100-105 I wouldn have been over 105. I was just worrying as I was working with a guy from the north last night who was saying he was sure the law had come in and that in his experience the PSNI were very tight with the lee way they will give you on going over the leeway.

    Cheers for the replies guys
