Hopefully Downing can give Perch a going over today.
    C'mon Villa!

I really hate players in positions other than centre forward wearing the number 9.

    Any working streams for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭shoutman

Ah he might as well be a striker, he'll end up being our top goalscorer anyway ;)

Surely Ireland would have done better than that.

Edit: Not the goal, stupid delayed stream.

What a rocket from Barton, amazing the way a missed penalty can turn things.

The build up from Newcastle there was a textbook of how their tactical approach is supposed to work. Carroll won the first ball up there and when he got it under control the cavalry was coming up behind him at pace. Meaning they had enough bodies in the box to trouble Villa from the first delivery and continue pressuring when the ball broke out to Nolan on the left hand side of the box. Good stuff.

Some movement on the shot, really bends away from Friedal in the air.

Poor from Friedel IMO and very poor peno by Carew

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Routledge has started the game very well. Looks lively, showing a willingness to take people on and be ambitious with his final ball.

Harper has looked shakey from a couple of pass backs already. He isn't being helped by the balls back to him mind.

    No.

    That was not offside!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Oh dear, the officiating wasn't great there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,337 ✭✭✭✭monkey9

Eh, what's wrong with that goal?

One hand in the air? Isn't that how shearer celebrated 85% of his goals. The other 15% being two hands in the air

Smith, Barton and Nolan are bullying Aston Villa in the middle of the park big time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,721 ✭✭✭CR 7

Shocking decision, only excuse for that is if the linesman isn't in the right position. Not gonna be villa's day it seems.

Lad's ye are worse for responding to that post tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,027 ✭✭✭✭titan18

I don't think the linesman called offside tbh.Was it a handball, only saw one replay.Just showed it again, it was,but don't think it was deliberate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Hmm, they gave it for handball it seems. Does look like it hit his arm and he gained an advantage from it on the basis of that last replay...

probably the light coming from brightness to shade, normally pretty solid

You just knew it was a great goal when he had both hands raised!

Good point actually, didn't think of that but could well be an issue given the sharpness of the contrast.

Gutierrez is playing really well. Newcastle are getting a lot of joy down that left hand side. Some good overlapping by Enrique as well.

It's a really enjoyable match so far.

The ref disallowed that for handball? That ridiculous. It's not like Young (a) knew anything about it and (b) controlled it with his hand. It just hit of him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,161 ✭✭✭✭M5

    Enrique super there, good goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Enrique and Carroll did brilliantly there. Have to say, Newcastle have really set about their task since the penalty miss. Having their way with Villa since then.

you cant score a goal if the ball hits your hand, irrespective of whether or not you knew about it. Hardly fair on Newcastle or anyone if you could

Bam! Awful defending there. This could be a rout. The reactions of the Villa players to that goal does not bode well.

    Newcastlesque defending there, terrible
