DIY motorised projector mount advice

    Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this - I intend to mount my projector in the suspended ceiling to drop down via a motor. The pre-made motorised mounts cost a fortune, so I'm going to make the cage myself and try and motorise it. I don't know where to begin on the electronic side of things, though.

My questions are, what kind of motor can I use? How would I control it? (e.g to drop a specific distance from a button press) Is there any existing (cheap) product I can "doctor" to use here?

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

For the electronic side of things I'd recommend taking a look at an arduino. They are really versatile and quite cheap, can be interfaced with motors and servos easily. They are also really well documented, though you will have to do a little coding yourself.

You could also review posts/ask over on AVForums, here's one example.

That is sweet! Never would have thought of a window actuator. Cheers!
